I have had dual UK and Irish nationality (both countries allow it) for about five years I have allowed my UK passport to lapse. I have no intention at the moment of ever renewing it:

I have not been aware of any problems.

Some countries, Spain for one, will not normally allow dual nationality, although Filipinos (being a former colony) who obtain Spanish nationally are allowed to retain their Filipino one.
