"When You Go Home, Tell Them Of Us And Say,
For Their Tomorrow, We Gave Our Today"
Ahoy, there ... ... I know it was 70 years ago. But where are all you staunch British patriots? C'mon!
My dad spent a lot of time on ships in the Paciific at that time.
VJ day was also my mother's 18th birthday.
She's just celebrated her 88th...and going strong.
Here are my dad's (RN) medals from WW2 He joined up as a 15 year-old in 1939, and stayed 30 years....
.
Thanks Arthur...I'm very proud of both of them .
I know I've probably mentioned it before, but my maternal grandfather served in the army throughout BOTH world wars.
His son then became a Coldstream Guardsman.. Tall like myself.
According to my brother...the medals left to right are:
1939-45 Star, the North Africa Star (1942-43), the Burma Star, the Italy Star, the Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-45, Naval General Service Medal Palestine (post WW2) and the Naval Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.
Haha...do I get a medal for being a pain in the neck who's difficult to get rid of ?
