    Turning Pinoy

No need to boast about the huge selection of fruits available here in Davao, or indeed all over Mindanao, as I guess everyone here knows already.

Just now seems to be peak season with virtually everything in abundance at silly low prices. Durian are especially plentiful and the premium varieties still only at P40 per kilo.

The strange thing is that I always disliked Durian smell and taste.
Well I can't understand it but recently it's become one of my favourite fruits

I must be on the cusp of being Pinoy.

In our fruitbowl tonight we had:-
    Banana, of which I eat 6 - 9 everyday
Mangosteen. Got to be my current favourite.
    Rambutan. Beautiful fruit
Marang also one of my favourites for ages now
Durian. The king of fruits and one that has got me hooked
    Lanka/Jackfruit
Newly into season we bought today Lanzones.

All these fruits, available fresh as can be and cheap as chips.
    What joy.

We still can get nice yellow mangoes but they've passed their perfect honey sweet best.

Still more fruits yet to try that I've heard of.

My wife can't believe I enjoy so much Durian. Need to take a bit of care on the quantity as they're high in calories.
Everyone tells me you can't eat Durian and drink beer as you'll be very very ill and might die.
Well just to say I've been doing that for weeks and I'm still here
I'm saying do it, just that I have.

    Don't think so.
The outside is very hard and very thorny. Makes handling it very tricky. The vendors will partially cut it to help get the edible parts out. A must in my experience.

What I miss are proper green mangoes! Green mangoes that I can get here are always sweet, which I don't really prefer.

No mention of pommelo or jackfruit or custard apples or star apples or..........

Sometimes you're flush and sometimes you're bust, and when you're up, it's never as good as it seems, and when you're down, you never think you'll be up again. But life goes on.
The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It's the passion that she shows to the outside world.

Glad you're enjoying the fruit - and your life - in Davao, Peter

I know of no good evidence that durian, or any other fruit, directly raises blood pressure - in fact a healthy diet including fruit and vegetables LOWERS the risk of high blood pressure .
