More than 152,000 Romanians registered for National Insurance (NI) numbers in 2014/15 - a key indicator of immigration levels - compared with just 47,000 in 2013.
The total for all nationalities was up by more than a third year-on-year to 824,000, including 629,000 from the EU, 100,000 from Asia and 79,000 from the rest of the world..Registrations from Bulgaria – whose citizens won full access to the British job market at the same time as Romanians at the start of last year – also rose starkly.
There were 17,800 arrivals from Bulgaria in 2013/14 compared with 40,600 last year, an increase of nearly 28 per cent and the highest number on record
Almost 200,000 National insurance applications from Romania and Bulgaria when we were fed stories in 2014 that people were overreacting . This government could of stopped this but chose not to.
