The running shoes worn by Sir Roger Bannister when he became the first man to break the four-minute mile have sold for £266,500 at auction, more than five times the expected amount.

An amazing amount for an amazing man.
One of a few really positive thinkers.

He came to our school and spent a whole day. We all got the chance to shake his hand.
He gave a couple of hours to tell us how he did it when everyone said he couldn't.
I can put my hand on my heart and truthfully say that he, together with Rudyard Kipling, changed my life.

His achievement was a miracle of mind.
