Actor Colin Welland Dies After Suffering Alzheimer's

Born Colin Williams in 1934, Welland was also a screenwriter - winning an Oscar in 1982 for his Screenplay of the previous year's classic film, Chariots of Fire, dedicated to Scottish athlete and Christian missionary, Eric Liddell.

But then ... ... in common with many viewers of my generation, ... it is for one of his earliest TV roles as Police Constable David Graham - alongside Brian Blessed's PC "Fancy" Smith - in 'Z Cars' that I shall BEST remember him.

    RIP

Yes, I remember him from Z cars too...and 'Kes' of course (filmed near where I was brought up).

    RIP to a talented gentleman.

Yes, the celebrated 1969 tearjerker ... about a young lad who "steals" a kestrel hawk from its nest, befriends and trains it - arousing a latent talent for falconry.

Interesting, too, Graham ... to lean that the movie was actually filmed near where you were brought up!
