I had no idea they could predict earthquakes..Mind you the cracks that they found might be an indicator they rarely get to use for a prediction tool.
So what is the best safety advice for those in Davao?
It must be very unsettling for those that live there.

I don't think anyone ever gets used to earthquakes. We had many quite strong tremors when we lived in Japan.
I was in Kobe during their big one.

If I wasn't living here I'd be living in Yokohama.

None of us know what lies around the corner.

I'm just focused on enjoying my retirement life to the max.

We don't live in a built up area that's one positive.
We do live near to the ocean so tsunami is the most dangerous for us here.
Samal Island is between us and the fault line so that's a positive.

We don't get much in the way of typhoons here in Mindanao but all around Compostela Valley does get plenty of landslides.

To be honest this information isn't unsettling to those people living in earthquake zones. We live without thinking about it. Just as we did in Japan, just as millions of people do all around our planet who live in areas of earthquake, volcano, flood etc.

Another positive is that I quit smoking almost 5 years ago.
Now that was a move putting me outside a known highly dangerous environment. IMO

After our earthquake here I wondered what all the fuss was about..People from the UK calling me at odd hours trying to find out if I had dropped into a sink hole or under a pile of rubble etc.. I guess we were lucky not to live in Loon..As for a few friends of mine it was a whole different ball game although no one that I know where killed or injured.

Having lived in Yokohama for the best part of 20 years and thanks to the local training and some personal experiences, you do begin to better understand how to be prepared for them and also how best respond if or when they happen.

As of now I feel fairly comfortable with the degree of risk I face here in Davao City.
