Tim Peake, born in Chichester, West Sussex in 1972 is a former Major with the RASC. Peake, a fitness enthusiast, graduated from Sandhurst and is an experienced aircraft pilot who has swapped his army role to become the first (and only British) astronaut to take part in manned research missions to the International Space Station which apparently orbits about 250 miles above the Earth.
