    Pantabangan Dam fishing..

As the title, I went fishing at Pantabangan Dam yesterday. The water since Typhoon Lando has risen over 14 meters and all my comfortable fishing spots are now under water.. a lot of water. I only use artificial worms to target Tawis or Large Mouthed Bass and it paid off yesterday with a great haul of fish. I started with a great fish of nearly 2 kilo so I was happy and ready to go home with that, but then I decided to move to a spot only 20 yards from my last place to try again for a few minutes. I cast out, and as the worm hit the water I saw my line being stripped from the open spool on my reel. A fish had taken as the worm dropped through the water. As I tightened up to strike, the fish was hooked and tore off more line before I could control it. It stayed deep and played me for 15 minutes until if finally tired. As it finally came to the surface I saw a monster fish, bigger than my landing net, it was still very strong but I eventually netter the beast. I had caught the largest Tawis I have ever heard of, 6 kilo and so big I could get my fist cleanly in its mouth. I am really chuffed with my catch and when I got home everyone came to see the monster fish. It is now in the freezer and we will eat it for my birthday, big enough to feed many. The photos below are of me and my daughter and baby son with the fish.

    Wow !!

What a story and what a magnificent monster of a fish

I'm really jealous. I haven't caught anything worth a mention since I've been here.
I enjoy my fishing trips but would enjoy even better if I could catch something special like you've done.

Well done Steve. It's always a double edged sword of excitement when you hook a fish bigger than the landing net. Good Job

Excellent fish for pinas,i honestly thought you would have a hard time getting them that big as most freshwaters i have tried are netted to death, congratulations i am going to my favourite lake in thailand in a few weeks, barramundi on the lure, hope i have results similar to yours.

You know around here there are several good spots to fish, but Tawi, you are right the rivers are mostly netted or electro fished to death.
Pantabangan is a great place, it's just so big and the fish are still in large numbers. But for sport, you can fish for Bulig/Dalag/Snakehead (all the same fish, just different names) in small slow waters or still ponds and streams. My largest has been just over 2kg. Good to eat too. I even shot two fish behind my house a few weeks ago with my air rifle.
    Tight lines....

I had a fantastic days fishing yesterday,my arms were dropping off,got around a dozen fish, lost a further 3 in snags,my biggest was around 40kg my son fished with me 2 weeks ago and got a 36kg fish and gave me loads of stick about it,his was a tiddler compared to mine i will stick pics up when i get them off this USB stick. On a different note i have met a number of pinays/pinoys in bangkok, most are english teachers, some are traders buying stock, quite a few of them around.
