It will indeed be Burns night tonight, celebrated by Scots and others in many parts of the world .

50 years ago today the British postal authorities issued the first commemorative stamps for Robert Burns, on the 170th anniversary of his death :-

The first Burns commemorative stamps EVER were issued by the former Soviet Union 10 years earlier !

For many years I was lucky enough to receive an invitation to a very special Burns night in Corby.
Often referred to a 'Little Scotland'

    Wonderful night

Did you ever get invited to Ginger Bakers house at Oundle during the 70's Peter? Sorry to go off topic but your post just reminded me of the times we had in your area!

Burns' suppers ... hmm! Can remember going to the occasional - very occasional - one when growing up in a small village where such events were held annually and, well ... it was OK. Yes, I enjoyed the aforementioned nosh. But ... ... as for the rest of the evening, it was devoted to speeches and toasts to the "Immortal Memory", etc. Which, being a teenager at the time, I'd find rather onerous to sit through. Mainly though, I went along with my dad - who had taken pride in his his father's ability to recite the whole of Burns's epic 'Tam O' Shanter' ... unaided.

I love 'real' Haggis. For me it's perfect. Meaty, spicy, and so very tasty.
