Angry Full Stops Falling Out Of Fashion, Due To Instant Messaging

... first it was commas ... and now this!

For someone like me, who - from as far back as I can remember - has constantly taken pride in my grammatical presentation of written/typed/printed words, this news is anathema.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016...ant-messaging/

Note, in the thread title, I have changed the word thanks (which appears in the link) to 'due' ... to instant messaging. This is because, I've "sweet Fanny Adams" to thank whoever dreamt up such a notion, for!

We all have different standards. I don't see any need to lower mine to accommodate the ignorant .

I'm not perfect with my punctuation but I do my best, I try not to abbreviate any words either when having any written communication

I'm far from perfect too Michael.

It's those who just don't care, who pee me off.

It's just little things that need thinking about.

    Apostrophes, use them.

There, their, they're, know the difference.

To, two, too. I gave my extra two beers to Fred as I'd had too much

    Whose and who's.

    Know and no.

So why did Fred get your beer when I was there too,
I think Fred is your favourite

    Steve, my friend.
If you recall correctly you had passed out hours before hand after going on about kayaks and beaches, and then telling us all how much you loved us

    ... yours and you're!

... there are far too many who, when they're writing or typing, don't seem to know the difference between their [proper] uses.

Oh *there're plenty others; (, Michael ... I've rolled two words into one with *there!) But take, for example, "of & off" which also spring to mind.

Anyway ... ... how can one expect separate sentences in a passage to be fully understood by reader(s) in the absence of correct puntuation and when there's no proper ending to a jumble of words simply strung together?

little dot exists for a purpose!

Seem the new thing is all the Emot's. It gets hard to read a thread sometimes when there are so many

Punctuation is one thing, spelling is another.

Emot= a smiley, Michael ... it is an abbreviation of the word, emoticon.

Probably more than most, I'm partial to their use. But then ... ... I find them so wonderfully expressive.

Take a look at this paragraph. Can you read what it says? All the letters have been jumbled (mixed). Only the first and last letter of ecah word is in the right place:

I cnduo't bvleiee taht I culod aulaclty uesdtannrd waht I was rdnaieg. Unisg the icndeblire pweor of the hmuan mnid, aocdcrnig to rseecrah at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it dseno't mttaer in waht oderr the lterets in a wrod are, the olny irpoamtnt tihng is taht the frsit and lsat ltteer be in the rhgit pclae. The rset can be a taotl mses and you can sitll raed it whoutit a pboerlm. Tihs is bucseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey ltteer by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe. Aaznmig, huh? Yaeh and I awlyas tghhuot slelinpg was ipmorantt! See if yuor fdreins can raed tihs too.

Can you read this , it makes perfect sense to me

I hate it when forecasting the weather they say "windier" instead of saying "more wind" also when people say "you and me" instead of "you and I"

There used to be an OCD grammar moderator,we never found out who he was,not publicly anyway, but he insisted on moderating peoples posts unasked, glad he stopped as are several others

Sometimes you're flush and sometimes you're bust, and when you're up, it's never as good as it seems, and when you're down, you never think you'll be up again. But life goes on.
The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It's the passion that she shows to the outside world.
