Thinking ahead, I realise that Mae may not be able to get an annulment. In which case, in a year or two, or relationship may come to an end.
Currently she is a waitress, but is not happy with her employer. One idea I had was to help her to get some training to get a better job. Anyone got any ideas? Maybe hairdressing, tailoring, professional cooking, something like that?
She has no educational qualifications, but is very bright lady.

how about what filipino's are famous for nursing, 4 years training thou, but looks like the nhs will be short of nurses again in the next few years, and who knows they might be allowed to start sourcing nurses from outside europe again and making it easier to get a workpermit, local hospital near me has over 100+ filipino nurses working there.
also after 5 years of working here, she will be able to apply for ILR, so even if you don't get an annulment you both can still be here together...
Useful thought, thanks. I was thinking of something she could study in the philippines. I would imagine they have too many nurses there, plus I would think that she would need some qualifications to train?

If you can aford it its worth helping Mae improve her English as much as possible and like you say improving or learning new skills which may help her find work in Phil or once in the UK. If Mae lives near a tourist location she may if she has good english skils gain a job in a hotel or shop just due to a language skills.
Just search Ielts both Joe Bloggs Wife and my Wife have taken the Exam which has helped them greatly for various reasons. It also helped when it came to the life in Britan test. Which they both passed with ease. With talk of a verbal exam for residence visas to the UK in the future being brought in it is best to ensure that this would be either bypassed by existing qualfications or a walk in the park due to existing skills.
Once in the UK many employers in basic Shop jobs seem to be more concerned they can speak decent English than qualifcations or expereince.
The Wife had decent alllround English skills held a qualification, but still wishes she had time to improve it further before she came to the UK.
From what i read and heard from thai aqquantanices its far harder for Thais to learn English due to the alphabet used.
Of course Phill schools use philglish, which means they read and write very well, but as you may have noticed the spoken "british" English is not as advanced, which is very frustrating for someone who could write a better eassy than the "brit" in front of them but they cant keep up with them in conversation.

you can apply for a fiancee visa before your divorce comes thru, but you will only be able to get this once you are within six months of the divorce being granted. if you can supply a letter from your divorce lawyer to say that your decree absolute will be granted within six months, you can apply for the fiancee visa now..

Yes, indeed I applied for a diancee visa for my second wife before in was divorced from the first. I had to go through an appeal - but the reason was nothing to do with my divorce situation.
However, there is obviously no way we could get an FV if the filipino partner is still married.

Carers will always be needed although in the UK they have made it more difficult for filipinas to come as carers, due to the opening up of the EU, but many other english speaking countries are still allowing them in, Australia,Canada,U.S.A although the pay is not as good for a carer as it is for a qualified nurse but the time to qualify is shorter and less expensive.
Is she any good at cooking?? she could do a chefs course perhaps..
Having said that the culinary college here in Manila is pretty expensive..
Mind you when they finish they can work near enough anywhere.

In the UK when the Wife was looking for Jobs Cooking and catering jobs far exceeded all others by miles. Well ones which the Wife could have a realistic chance of getting.
