    Newbie here..Hello Everyone

    Hello

I am a new member here and in Houston, TX now. I'm from Cebu and have 3 kids with my hubby.
My husband is a US citizen and he has a job offer in Aberdeen, UK with the company name Davors Offshore
and I want to know if its legit or scam. I looked at their website and it seems legit but I can't find them in the Linkedin
website and they also refer us to the Morecliffe Assurance company but I checked online for reviews, nothing came
out. I even checked offshore drilling companies in Aberdeen, UK but can't find their company name.
Hoping yall can help me. Thanks in advance

Why do you think a scam? Are they asking for money? Or asking for down payments for visas? Who has your husband been talking to? If he is working in the oil and gas business I am sure he is intelligent enough to work out if it is legitimate or not.

Thanks for the response sir. Why I think its a scam is because when I tried to google their company name, its only their website I have seen. No they're not asking for down payments for visa. My husband was talking to their company's HR and their immigration lawyer. We don't know about the immigration laws and protocols in the UK. Their lawyer said he needed the certificate from the insurance company for the work permit. We're ok with that but the thing is their insurance company gave us a quote of 2,880 pounds and pay it right away. I looked at the uk.gov website and it said there that pay 200 pound a year and 1,000 pound for 5 years. My husband never paid anything before working anywhere. Its the company who will pay for the insurance.

Your husband must have other colleagues to ask for advice. I don't know what the insurance is for? If he is working for a normal company then they have liability insurance that covers employees. If he works offshore then maybe he needs extra personal insurance, but not being in the oil and gas industry I don't know. A company asking up front for large sums of money of course rings alarm bells.

Been doing some searching too. I think you could be right, looks very dodgy. Looking at google earth street view, there are no businesses by that name on that street. It does look like lots of apartments and a few plumbing supplies. If you do a search for businesses on 192.com for the zip code you also fail to see it as a registered business. I would be VERY careful and don't pay a penny. If I were you I would call a nearby business and ask if they have heard of it, locals would know. Please be careful.

Thank you so much Sir Steve.r
    I know something's not right.
I even looked at the insurance company that they refer to, Morecliffe Assurance and I googled it and only their website showed up and I can't find any reviews from the insurance company. This is what the company lawyer said:
Morecliffe Assurance is the designated Insurance
Company for applicants from your continent and any other Insurance
    company will be rejected.
I'm sorry to ask, have you heard of this company called Morecliffe Assurance? I am asking this because we are not from the UK. We are residing in the US. And also the DAVORS Offshore company is the company who offered a job to my husband. They give my husband some questionnaire about work related. They did not ask anything like money for visas or ID picture.

Looks kind of the same situation. Its just that in my husband situation the company first contacted us 2nd of June of this year and this was their email:

The Davors Offshore companies form the drilling contracting business
activities of Vred. Olsen Energy ASA. The company’s offshore activities
are controlled from our office in Aberdeen, United Kingdom.

In addition we have an office in Singapore which provides management and
administrative support including the employment of international
    offshore personnel.

We seek to have qualified graduate engineers, technicians of various
backgrounds join our work force in ABERDEEN,UNITED KINGDOM. We are also
in need of qualified professionals in the management, Drillers, Safety,
Construction, Engineering/Administrative fields. We offer equal
opportunity to the qualified. On indication of interest, do forward a
copy of your resume for further evaluation.

My husband sent his CV to them then on 6th of June, they replied and send my husband online questionnaire.
After they replied on the 9th of June and said they would give us feedback in 2 business days. On 15th of June, they emailed and this is what they said:

We appreciate the time and effort you have used presenting us with your
personal details and following up our recruitment process till date.
After due consideration and much attained experience work profile,
DAVORS OFFSHORE is so pleased to offer you the Job position as FIELD
ENGINEER. However, be informed that we will be pleased if you would
accept our employment offer to join our prestigious company on the
stipulated date. You will find an attached copy of the employment
agreement document On satisfaction with the content, you are to append
your signature on the space provided for “employees”.

The signed contract agreement should be forwarded back to us via email
attachment. On receipt of the aforementioned, comprehensive information
or details concerning your relocation procedure will be communicated to
you immediately via our relocation adviser.

They did not ask for money from us. We emailed the insurance company and they let my husband choose of their plans from single to family and when we chose one, they gave us the amount to be paid online. The Insurance company has a bank account here in the USA and they said to deposit it here in the US for faster transaction. My husband have to pay from their choice of insurance company there in the UK to have a certificate that needed for the work permit. Its big amount so that's when my husband's in doubt. Asked the lawyer for another affordable insurance company but the lawyer insisted of this particular insurance company.

Thank you sir Steve.r and we have not paid anything.
My husband sent his passport biographic page when the insurance company because they ask for his identification. That's not good, right...

ok, now i looked at the Morecliffe website. Compare the two, Morecliffe and Davors, they look exactly the same, similar layout, similar fuzzy look to the names, look top left in both sites, very fuzzy looking design, looks like a cheap copy.
Also, I can't find any Morecliffe Assurance listed for the address given in London.

    100% scam

I think this needs to be referred to the UK government's fraud (web)site.

... Perhaps a few more scumbags can be chased away.

... badly~composed letters are rarely (if ever!) the hallmarks of a proper businesslike approach, and that factor, in itself, would certainly put me off from the start as regards the legitimacy of the outfit concerned.

said, to Filipina Roses, Yamanna. I would, of course, echo the doubts already expressed by my friends, urging BOTH you and your husband to be very, very cautious in ANY further dealings you're likely to have with the Company you've mentioned ... most especially bearing in mind that NO LEGITIMATE employer should expect job applicants to part with money in advance without a good, valid reason for doing so.

Thank you Sir Arthur Little for welcoming me here. On Monday we are going to call US embassy about my husband's passport biographic page that my husband sent to the Morecliffe insurance company. They might use my husband information.

    Hi Yamanna,
We are in the same boat. Hubby just got a job offer from Davors Offshore. Their website seems to be legit, but upon closer inspection, it doesn't have any "media relations" listed, or press releases, or even a place for investors to click on. I've never seen an oil company that operates rigs offshore to not include these three essential information pieces.

Additionally, when you search the domain through the who is registry (I normally go through www.whois.sc), you get that this domain is registered and hosted in Moscow, Russia. There is no way a UK company would ever register anything legitimate in Russia.

Coupled with the news clipping from the Irish news previously posted, I feel that yes, this company and any offers of employment should indeed be considered a scam.

Furthermore, hubby was also approached by Tupras (under the email info@tuprasonline.com), again with a job offer. We've since discovered this is also a scam and the real Tupras has that email (tuprasonline.com) listed on their career site as being scandalous.

Since Tupras' actual website is http://tupras.com.tr/ it was kind of off that the emails were coming from tuprasonline.com. That's another flag.

Wishing your husband the best in finding true employment.

All of these scammers should be reported to the appropriate fraud prevention department within your government, wherever you are resident.

They can't be stopped or punished if the authorities aren't made aware. (google search for details)

Hi Yamanna, thank you for posting your experience here. I googled around the same group of companies, this time Aries Marine - a very reputable company that has good track records in many parts of the world. I have recently accepted a Master position for one of their support vessels based in Aberdeen Scotland. A two year contract on a monthly rotation. Yes, it would be hard yakka but the conditions seem adequate. For two years I could even put up with the cold and foggy dangerous waters in the North Sea. Where things got dodgy is when it came to work permit and insurance. My online searches popped up your thread here from 2016 that got me even more thinking and researching. May I ask you, what was the result of your husbands endeavours? Thanks in advance and sunny greetings from Galveston (before packing and leaving...), Derrick
