    Speeding ticket

Never been done in 25 years driving. But coming back from Leicester the other weekend an accident forced us off the motorway onto local roads. Not knowing the area and trying to navigate a route home I missed a sign that said the road was a 20 mph road. Only when I saw a great big white 20 on the road did I realise, which was at the same point the camera flashed me.
I had seen the camera in plenty of time which is the annoying thing as I am being done for a speed of 28mph in a 20 zone!
I can't appeal it as I am in the wrong. Just got to send the letter back and see if it's a fine and points... a court date or maybe send me on one of those speed awareness courses.

That's a bummer, I've been driving 48 years now with a clean licence more by luck than judgement though as we are all prone to speeding, its inappropriate speed that's the big problem.

48 years for me too... and mostly covering 25,000+ miles a year.

    Also ridiculously 'lucky'.

Just the endorsement/3 points when I was 18... going through a red light in London.

Last time I was pulled for speeding I was driving this car 'allegedly' at 90mph in a 60 zone.

The two young cops just wanted to have a look under the bonnet though... and after a little chat about cars, sent me on my way.

56 years clean but when I was truck driving I got stopped twice for doing 66mph with a then 32 ton truck luckily got away with verbal warnings, not bad considering during 25 years on HGV's I was doing over 100,000 miles per year.

Unlucky. Was this around Northampton? They are buggers there. I had a clean license until I bought my Merc CLS last year. 1 awareness course and 3 points later and I'm ultra paranoid now (two separate unmarked cars in my case, one where I was very very very lucky after I overtook him and he followed me for 10 miles at 90mph on the A5, ahem). Never had any problems when in the TVR, probably because you know you're going fast, unlike the Merc.

Had five times more accidents than speeding tickets although the majority weren't my fault. Both the two that were involved reversing at 10mph in a van. One of them I reversed into a petrol pump. That was the day after I got back from the Phils in early 2013.

Got my one and only ticket over a decade after passing my test. That ticket was issued over twelve years ago. Nowadays I drive over 50k per year so I have been fortunate because I don't always keep to the limit.

Getting breathalyzed has probably reached double figures now but I don't drink and drive so I'm always in the clear.

Got my letter today with my three options.

    A. 20 mph speeding awareness course.

    B. Three points and £100 fine.

    C. Court hearing.

I chose option A. Although you have to pay £97 for the pleasure of the course. But at least I won't have three points on my licence.

Only thing is the next course is in 6 weeks time. The closest one to me is 10miles away and I'm having to book a day off from work, that's all presuming I'm still living around this area in 6 weeks time!

It was in Dunstable. Never been there before and never likely to again!

Currently spending the hottest day of the year on a speed awareness courses.... very boring. Started at 12 and lasts until 3.30.
Only two of us here got caught in Dunstable. About 20 got caught on Tower Bridge!
Apparently those cameras have been there since 2009, but only recently got turned on. Hence the reason loads are being caught now.

I wonder why those speed cameras suddenly 'came alive'

    Enjoy the course slip

Everyone I've heard from has said the awareness course was interesting?

I have only been on a 'drive properly' course (attended by red light runners, those using mobile while driving, no seatbelt etc.) - I had crossed a solid white line during an overtake. I found the course interesting, not that I'd voluntarily choose to spend 3 hours doing it again!

Interesting to a certain degree, but very boring.... And maybe it was just me, but the instructors were very patronising...
