    British cars.

Following on from another thread, after much head scratching I can only think of Mclaren as a British owned and built car using mainly British components like body and engine.
    Any others out there

Noble Automotive ? (though the body and chassis are manufactured in S.Africa now, I believe, then sent over here).

    Ginetta ?

    I'm sure there are more.

Something we could really excel at again... if only British consumers were more patriotic and loyal.

I remembered there was a company from Scunthorpe (now Sheffield I believe), but couldn't remember the name Ginetta.

McLaren. Foolish of me to forget them in my post on the other thread. Especially since I've just played Best of the Best to win one (must be my turn?).

Building Cars is always something we were always pretty good at, its the Investment side that we were always poor at.
Im certain there would be a market for a British Car, without all the Computerised stuff thats being made today, Im talking about a Modern exterior Car, with an engine that everyone can work on ie change plugs, points etc etc, and built in small numbers maybe 100 or so a week.

In fact the Rickman Ranger kit Car would have been ideal to be built and used in the Philippines.

Have you looked up who actually owns those companies now though Harry ?

I CAN say that I've owned two REAL Lotuses, as designed by Colin Chapman and manufactured by his company... as was. Also one Aston Martin.

    .

I also like your idea of a 'people's' car. So many emissions regulations, crash-proofing, etc now though, that it's probably more difficult to design a 'user-friendly' one, as we understood it.

Hahahaha, dont start me on what we used to do, I am from the West Midlands the one time Hot bed for Manufacturing, and now just a great big Warehouse for many imported products from Europe & The Rest of the World.I dont have time to list the many of the Industries that have gone by the wayside over the past 41 years; but here are a few; Walsall famous for its Leather Industry, Stourbridge for its Glassmaking, Kidderminster for its Carpet Making, Cradley Heath for its Drop Forging, Willenhall for making Locks, all Quality products, they have been replaced by inferior cheap Imported foreign goods..

Yes, the global economy is touted as such a marvellous thing... by those who have got rich off it. Little thought given to all the skilled workers and their families who have been sent to the scrap heap here over the past several decades.

What an enormous waste of human resources.

I believe the Reliant Motor Company LTD may only be dormant and could rise again at any time.

I used to have an Ultima, as you know Graham. British owned, based in Hinckley but predominantly specced with a short block chevy engine provided by American Speed.
TVR are now Russian owned I believe

I believe Les Edgar purchased the rights to TVR in 2013 and recently purchased the rights to manufacturing equipment from Nikolai Smolensky. New car to be unveiled soon with a V8 Cosworth....
