    Specsavers eye test

One of our drivers is on holiday and he went to Specsavers for a eye test we are lead to believe, well he rang my college the other day and has stated that when we went they had noticed a squint in one eye.
Well the reason he is calling us is that Specsavers notified the DVLA and he is saying that they have took from him his HGV license,.
Now he recons that he is not happy about this and is going to another branch of Specsavers for a 2nd opium .
What i cannot understand is why did he not go to his doctors and how can Specsavers contact the DVLA with out his consent and surely they should have said consult your doctors.
He cannot drive a HGV according to these people but he can drive a smaller lorry plus his car too, now if this is all true he could loose a large amount of wages or even worst his job.
I must add this driver has been known to tell a white lie here and there , he is coming in work tomorrow to let us now what is happening ,

I went to Specsavers and they found a problem with my eyes (coloboma) they just sent a letter to my doctor who referred me to a specialist.

Can't see them notifying DVLA though... Sounds very unlikely.

The individual is meant to inform DVLA of any eyesight issues although opticians have been known to do it themselves if the problem is serious enough.

He could be telling the truth but on the other hand this "holiday" could have been a smokescreen for him to start a new job somewhere else.

I went to Specsavers in Spain. They sold me some specs. I complained that they were not what I had expected. They checked them and said they were correct.

A week later by coincidence I went to the local medical centre where they checked my eyes and gave me a prescription for specs.

I took it to another optician in the High Street and asked how my Specsavers specs compared with the prescription. They checked them and said they were not too bad ‘considering I must have had them for a couple of years’. When I said they were a week old they take them back as they were not correct for me

Specsavers after some argument changed the specs. I leave you to draw your own conclusions.

I just had an eye test with spec savers and I felt like I had a very good test. The optician appeared very thorough and answered all the questions I had. I chose two pairs of bifocals one set as sunglasses. I know my vision has changed since having my eyes tested in the Philippines beginning of last year, so looking forward to my new ones. I have to wait 10 days, where as in the Philippines it was 2 hours, but this is the uk. I will report back on whether they are ok or not.

As for reporting to the DVLA, I don't think it is legal for them to do that, I think they should contact your doctor first before they can do anything.

Well Steve, my lovely silver framed Costa Del Mar Fathom sunglasses, the best I have ever worn finally succumbed to the daily wearing and heat of the Philippines. Over the last few years since the new silver frames they had been great, but a hot year in the Philippines did affect them. They started to keep slipping off which was bad when I was fishing. When I got back to the UK, you know me, I emailed the company who said ok, return them. So I did. A couple of weeks later, a package arrives. My glasses are now like new again. They polished the lenses and fitted them in lovely tortoise shell frames. Really, as new. They have a lifetime guarantee, and have done it again... brilliant. Best ever service.

Here is a photo of before showing the frames all bent out of shape, and the new frames as new again.

They were expensive Steve, to buy now they are £239

But with the guarantee, it is well worth it. I wouldn't be without them. I do look after them though, glass lenses and all, but daily wearing at home and fishing, I have my money's worth already with the service they have given me. I highly recommend them.

This is a reminder for me I really MUST have an eye test.

My 6 year old daily glasses need an update and I know my trusty 8 year old Arrows 'sunnies' really do need an update too.'

My wife had issues with Specsavers
She's also had issues with a couple of testers/suppliers here too. Including EO

Not sure just where I'll go.

    Any recommendations anyone ??

I have a relative who is a manager at Specsavers. I will look into this. I would write to Specsavers, and tell them you are going to make this public. I am sure people would like to know this. Makes my blood boil that this is been done without the customer knowing all full details.
