Thanks Simon.
No surprises there then.
(I do hate it when I type 'York' into the box and it comes 3rd or 4th in a list of foreign 'york' copycats . huh. )
Enjoyed using that Simon, Thank you
Cheese, milk , onions and lettuce tops , are more expensive in Marikina everything else is juts dandy
SM Marikina City have Heinz Baked Beans from UK.
P142
But very very tasty....
That's a very very kind offer Steve. I may take you up on that one day soon.
Christmas is on the cusp
I noticed all the usual Christmas songs were being played all over Divisoria and Tutuban.
So much stuff I miss. Silly things really like English Mustard, Tins of Pilchards, Colemans mustard, Bisto gravy granules (the red one with red top), Heinz Five Beans in tomato sauce, Seeds of Change tomato and garlic pasta sauce, Mint Sauce, Pickled Onions .........
Arghhhhhh. got to stop this before I have dreams
Slurping I bet you are after saying all those foods,
Again I do enjoy all you have mentioned and I can get it all from Aldi too, pilchards in tomato source on brown bread now I am smacking my lips
We're lucky in that SM Marikina has an outlet of The French Baker.
Fabulous range of tasty breads. Baguettes, Whole Wheat, regular Brown etc. Prices are very good too. Cheaper than UK for the same quality
All baked on the premises.
The downside is that, unlike UK, the making and baking is done in the morning from opening time at 10am
Means the best products are only available from 1pm onwards.
I used to find it very difficult to get savoury bread
There's quite a few specialist bakeries around.
we're very as The French Baker has outlets in Marikina and also Cubao
There's always a queue whatever time of day. Many willing to wait an hour or more.
We found a baker in Davao called Euro Baker who made a good range of quality European breads.
Also Swiss Deli in Matina made some great Baguettes and Ciabatta
In Dumaguete there was only one place we could find Savoury bread it was a Swiss owned Bar and if we didn't get to buy it early in the day one was out of luck until next morning so we used to get three loaf's and freeze two, for anyone in that area it was 'Why Not' 100 yards from 'Bethel Guest House'
I always buy what I think I need for a few days and fast-freeze it.
Perfect
I always take gravy granules with me.. chicken, beef, and onion flavour... plus various jars and packs of spices, curry powder etc.
I mostly cook my own food, and it makes it so much more easy to quickly create a tasty dish from fresh ingredients.
Must admit Peter,I am VERY lucky as my Mum sends me over a year supply of everything you just mentioned every Christmas..(and more)
To be honest apart from mustard, Marmite and baked beans I can make the other stuff fresh..
We can get things like fresh mint here for mint sauce but I object to the cost of imported lamb so we dont really bother with it... Ive still got 2 big plastic jars of squeezee mint sauce from UK in my ref just sitting there still waiting for the lamb to arrive!
Gravy is easy..No need for granules but to this day I have no idea why Yorkshire pudding do not rise here?? Tried everything!!
