How you gonna get it to her guv? Or do you plan keeping the pressie here in the UK for when she arrives?

There are companies that courier gifts never the best value (ie if you can ask a cousin to buy a present it would be cheaper) but quite nice as a suprise as i know from my wifes expereinces of recieving the gift.

When my lady was still in the RP I just sent her £100 for Christmas. And she spent it on her family which made her feel good.

Otherwise just bank the money for the mountain of visa/ LLTR/ ILR/ Citizenship fees you'll be paying and send your love

I was going to buy it, and keep it here for her, just not sure what to get, was hoping some of the girls would give me an idea. I did send her some money, but she spends it on her family and friends like you said! There is a website called www.serenataflowers.com where you can send flowers and hampers and stuff, I think I'll buy her family a hamper, she'll like that, still need to buy HER something though!

Why not just buy a big party hamper so she can party with her family the memories will be more important than a cuddly toy or pair of ear rings trust me.

The trouble with a hamper is - unless you can choose the contents yourself - they usually put some items in that people will never eat or drink - like stewed prunes or tripe flavoured biscuits.

This is going to be Hanna and I's first Christmas and I shall send her the money. If it pleases her to spend it on her family, then so be it. I shall be happy if she is happy.

It seems typical that filipina's give the money to there families, I think that makes them really special, I still want her to have something for herself though..

My missus might buy her self a treat or two, but she did when over there and still does send over a fair chunk of her own money for family parties and the like. There is a Videoke man out there in laguna who might as well be sponsered by the pair of us

    hi Nigel,

I agree with u when u said that most of the filipinas seems like to enjoy sharing everything with her family but maybe it is still depends on how she was closed to her family..I myself, really love it sharing with my family whatever i have and I am lucky to have my chuck understand it the very start of our relationship being the eldest i know it is one of my responsibility to take gratitude with my family..

anyway, back to ur queery, chocolates and flowers seems ok but do she loves flowers? imho,it will be better if u think of something which she is fond of or which can be of use to her..does she enjoys reading? u can send her books..does she like stuff toys?why dont u give her a cute and loving teddy..does she fancy accessories? why dont u try giving her a necklace or earrings that u can afford..

Goodluck on the visa application and merry xmas to u and vimvie...

I dont think it is wrong to share blessing to family as long as both happy to do it. It is natural trait of Filipinos being generous to family and love to share and give gratitude to the family especially when its Christmas or if theres special occassion such as birthdays, anniversarry, baptismal or wedding day. My finace sent me shopping money to spend for myself and my children and he is happy to do it because he knows thats my happiness and wishes for Christmas. He even sent some for my niece, how sweet and loving fiance he is. He loves to make me happy and cares about my family, too. Im so proud of him.

Last Christmas, me and fiance were not together, what he did aside from sending me new Nokia Cellphone, Sport watch, sets of my favorite DVD`s, and CD`s he purchased a set of jewelries and keep it and he just gave it to me when he came here. That was very sweet.

Nigel, I think for example if she likes swimming then give her a sports water resistant watch. Or if she likes music then MP3, if she likes cooking give her a recipe book and a nice apron. Or a set of jewelries with her birthstone if you can afford it.

    10 Kilo`s of daing.

She doesn't have to eat it quickly as it keeps very well.
She can hang it from the kitchen door and can cut one off from time to time when she gets a bit home sick(or time of month).
I do the same thing with Tetley tea bags. (nothing to do with my time of month)

If she is careful and you dont have too many Filipino parties it will last and stay edible until next Christmas.
Its cheap and if a neighbour upsets you in summer months then simply throw a piece on the BBQ and tell them not to do it again..
    They wont
    .
She will think it so romantic that you were so thoughtful in your cultural gift selection, that you...Well..You know!
I accept suggestion donations via Paypal and I will soon have a link available on how to make your own daing .
All you need is a garden shed roof a sharp knife and a 1 lb of salt.

    Happy Christmas..In advance.
