... Lord Brian Rix - Baron Rix of Whitehall - has died at the age of 92.

Although his name is mostly synonymous with farcical comedies presented from London's Whitehall Theatre during the 1950s & '60s,
 he had, over very many years, campaigned vigorously on behalf of 'MENCAP' - an organisation which, as its title suggests, is dedicated to *improving conditions for people with either a mental handicap or some form of learning difficulty. And, together with Lady Rix - Scots actress, Elspet Gray - to whom he was married for 64 years until her death in 2013, he'd been committed to *this cause ever since the couple's eldest child was born in 1951 with Down's Syndrome.
