I have a old car but it does me well and so far so good.
Its a Toyota Avensis 1998 and i was the 2nd owner and i have had it 15 years.
If i am driving well a little green econo light comes on the dash and i could be driving at 70mph and the light could still be on too, but like anything in life its how you use it , drive hard it will not show.
So these new cars they have this thing that shows you how many miles to the gallon you are getting, well the other day my friend has a little car , its nice just over 1 ltre engine and as we was going down the notorway he was doing well over speed limit and this gadget was saying we are getting the miles per gallon as the speed we was doing.
Now i know things have improved in cars and they do get more to the gallon too, but as i tried to say to him, no way are you getting that to the gallon , he insisted it does not changed much no matter how he drives this car, if he drives it right its between 60/70+ to the gallon and if he hammers it like he says its nearly the same .
I think its just a gimmick , if driven right he may be getting 50 to the gallon, not in a lab though
