When's the earliest you can renew your passport?

9 months = January, which might only give me a month or so before I travel.

Can you renew it in person at one of the passport offices on the same day? I've done this before I think but this was years ago so rules might have changed.

I'm sure you can at Liverpool, the info is on the application form, you should be ok to post if you let the Post Office send it
