Hmm ... you're wondering who was asked, Steve? Well, I certainly wasn't... but, had I been, I'd have to agree that her nickname, "The Iron Lady", summed up her reputation among the Scots, who held her accountable for introducing the hated Poll Tax north of the Border on a purported "trial basis" in the first instance. And, to the best of my knowledge, it was that act of hers - above ALL others - that led to her memory becoming so vilified among the Scottish electorate, at least.
Having said that, many former council tenants (myself included) have cause to be grateful to Thatcher for the 'Right To Buy' policy she implemented throughout the UK. Alas, the Scottish Government has now discontinued this excellent scheme that helped millions of ordinary folk (again like myself) gain access to the property ladder.
Unpopular though she may have been (if the survey presented is to be believed!) IMO, she was one of THE most *capable Prime Ministers in British history ... of *that, there can be little doubt.![]()
