So they (Phils Govt) don't mind losing the many thousands of wealthy American tourists and residents by making the latter feel unsafe, after President Duterte's threatening and insulting outbursts ? Never mind the tourists, businessmen and expats who 'look like' Americans... such as you and I.
A very strange way to behave.![]()
There has been too much dangerous rhetoric for the last 3/4 years around the sea dispute and the Chinese bus holdup incident.. I for one was getting a little nervous. The ruling from the world courts did not make anything any safer here for us..In fact it just enraged the Chinese more.
The U.S admin were unable to prevent the Chinks building islands in the Philippines territory ..Right under their noses!!!
The Philippines has to fend for itself now IMO..Its no good being a Pawn on a chessboard waiting to be sacrificed.. It has to map its own path..
The rest is just political noise.
In regards tourism,Ive noticed lots more Chinese,Koreans and Taiwanese here arriving over the last 6 months.
So far the ones we have dealt with have been very polite and respectful tourists..With lots of cash!!
Have to say,I was surprised as it was not what I was lead to believe.
Now the chink Gov. have lifted travel warnings,I expect the whole tourist demographic here in Bohol to change whether I like it or not..
Filipino`s voted for change... All I can do is adapt.
Watched a program about this a day or so ago on France 24, it seems that 76% of the Philippine public are against this intervention by China, will have to investigate further![]()
This is what the Koreans think!!!
Here`s a very balanced article on the situation...Makes a refreshing change.
Duterte’s pivot

What "intervention" by China are "76%" of Filipino`s against Micheal??it seems that 76% of the Philippine public are against this intervention by China![]()
Being there fred, ie boots on the ground sort of thing,
Are you concerned about what's happening or does life still go on in the paradise where you call home
I hope the Filipinos prosper, of course, but I do find the current situation very unsettling.
I wonder where all the call centres will move to after the President kicks English off the school curriculum, along with the hundreds of thousands of good jobs associated with them ?
Isn't he also talking about introducing harsher visa regulations for foreigners ?
The Oligarchs who actually run the country will be putting their collective feet down soon I reckon.
I am glad I still have time to think, " where do I want to be ".
The world is changing so quick and is it for the best,.
I better get that pin and the world map out and try my luck, the only problem I have with this is I keep getting Clacton on Sea .![]()
I think I'll get a new T shirt printed with 'I'm English, not American' on it for my Christmas visit...
I think he`s asking the US for visa parity... Not going to happen obviously otherwise 50% of the R.P will go straight to the U.S!!!Isn't he also talking about introducing harsher visa regulations for foreigners ?
30 day Visa free period might be at risk so it might be another 2k at the most for Yanks..
Brits might be next on the tourist visa "parity" list...
Dont worry too much Graham...Your hair might turn grey!!![]()
Think he`s referring to this Peter..
http://globalnation.inquirer.net/147...ct-visa-policy
BTW..Just watching CNN..Officials say (officially)that the R.P WILL NOT rescind on ANY U.S-Filipino treaty deals.
The only intervention by China regarding tourism, that I'm aware of ,was that of the Chinese government advising Chinese citizens not to visit Philippines.
My personal feelings on this issue do not count and thankfully are not a high priority. I'm a foreigner guest here and I live a very very low-profile, but highly enjoyable, life here.
Obviously for me it is a priority... Believe it or not Chinese dont seem to be as demanding as westerners..My personal feelings on this issue do not count and thankfully are not a high priority.
Not that I am unwilling to deal with demanding customers you understand!!
Some countries I just don't trust.
Those old diplomatic and economic textbooks no longer seem to apply to.
Currency manipulation, protectionist policies
and economic principles that pursue 'ends justify the means' now rule.
Nationalistic protectionism is the order of the day.
Isn't that also the prime mover for Brexit.
Another rant out of way.
I'm off to Nueva Ecija for a while
As it happens, I will be taking several pairs of Team GB socks next trip. ... plus Union flag flipflops for the nipper. They were on offer at Aldi.![]()
I was gonna say..........!!They were on offer at Aldi.![]()
... Not to mention the 6 new pairs of Y-Fronts, the purchase of which, Amazon asked if I would like to share on Facebook.![]()
