Work started at 9am and finished at 6.45pm and what break did i have , none, no staff and so busy and is anyone bothered not really.
Its no wonder i lose my rag with some folk who i feel are not pulling there weight, "Where are you i ask a driver", i am having my dinner break, " you have just stopped for your break according to the tracker " i said , no i was waiting to be unloaded .
So for 1 hour the driver sat there doing nothing , then he moved his vehicle less then 1 mile to take his dinner break for another 45 minutes .
Yes you are entitled to a dinner break and other breaks too, but when there is not a chance of me having mine well heads will roll next week when the owners son is back, both barrels will be fired.

I would have thought you don't have a leg to stand on. From what I understand, and I know you know a hell of a lot more than me. Aren't drivers meant to have their break uninterrupted. Not in the middle of being loaded/unloaded.

You are right Slip, and they should not even sit in there drivers seat if you followed the law too., you can take a 15 minute break followed by a 30 minute break, or take the full 45 minute break after driving for 4 1/2 hours.
But this driver was waiting outside the premises then in he went and 5 minutes later he was tipped, that to me is taking the
There are ways to get round things as always if that is what you are wanting to do in any job, but thats between you and me

Bring back my driving days in the sixty's and seventies when I lived in Peterborough, used to start 2am and finish 11pm almost every day, hardly ever had a day off, eg, one days work, Load at LBC (lLondon brick company) 2am all hand bawl 11000 bricks (and they were hot sometimes) myself and two Italians, then deliver Edinburgh and reload at Cadbury's with empty pallets and on up to Cadbury's at Montrose tip and reload for Cadbury's Cambridge then used to drive a few hours and park in a layby and get some kip, wake up about 2am and down to Cambridge tip then back to the depot pick up a loaded trailor for Thurso and get as far as I could. Log sheets were great and I lived for the job just loved it

When I did your job Steve, I used to start at 6am and more often than not finish at 10pm and I was alone apart from my boss running a large fleet, must admit though I did enjoy it but would have preferred your hours much better

3 years ago they brought in a new License .
It is called a CPC licence , you have to do a 35 hour course every 5 years so you are allowed to drive.
Any person who may have been driving for 20 -30-40 years before with all those years experience , if you did not apply for the CPC and worse if you failed it , you could not drive a hgv Vehicle for work every again.
Thats why a few years ago many older drivers just stopped driving, or went to drive vans.
To many rules these days and many are from Europe too.
Its being said that the new CPC course has been changed now from the 35 hours down to 7 hours , but that is just for Europe , but still have to apply ever 5 years .

Still got my CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) from many years ago, I'd forgotten all about it, had to have it after I stopped driving to do the management side of the job.

Hay ho , after talking to Emma she understands how work and stress gets to me, but she always says the same , "grow a pair", no not really.
