    Server Downtime.

Due to a major technical failure at my host in New York on the network, the site ended up being offline for more than 24hrs. Although this problem was out of my hands, I apologise for any inconvenience.

Over the coming months I will be transferring all sites in the US to a UK based host as soon as I find one that actually has working customer service over the holiday periods. It took me 4hrs to get through yesterday

One other thing, sending email to me is not much use as if the server is down, so it my email.

Keith I can recommend Heart Internet - UK based, with outstanding customer service. The reseller package is good value. I have emailed support many times, and got a reply always within 30 minutes, even on a Sunday morning.

As for emails, as a rule, I never have my mx's pointing at the server where the websites are hosted. I use Google Applications mostly, and my personal email is at Fastmail, who have servers in Australia, UK and New Yawk. They have an excellent back up and redundancy systems in place, so any disruptions are minimal.

Keith heres an idea (I know, I know, a Welshman with ideas - dangerous) , maybe you could set up a Win2Win status page on another server, something like status.win2win.co.uk, so if members of the forums start panicking, they can see at a glance whats going on.

I do have another web page on another server, in fact I have 10 sites on it, but how many Win2Win member's had it bookmarked? About 11 according to the stats, and they were nearly all Mods!!!! www.wintwowin.co.uk

I have plenty of email on different servers, so that isn't a problem.

It now transpires it was some kind of DOS attack on the host.

Heart don't do Cpanel dedicated root servers, thanks anyway. Having looked at loads yesterday, toss up between Fasthosts & 1and1.....as I already have one with the latter, it'll probably be the former.
