Exclamation [Previously Pipe~Puffing] Arthur's Been Smokeless Throughout 2018

... following a particularly bad bout of coughing - shortly after receiving last year's 'flu jab - I "took the pipe by the bowl" and stopped smoking 'cold turkey' on the very day my late first wife and I would've celebrated 50 years of wedlock had she lived, 15 December 2017.

's now more than a year ago!

    Sorry... just seen this Arthur.

Well done mate. Got to be better for your health, eh.

July 2014 I smoked my last cigarette (after a 45 year habit) . Never give them a thought now.

Ah, no worries, Graham. Much as I'd hoped the news might've attracted a BIGGER response from others who'd already quit, I wanted to go for a full 12 months before making my announcement, which, due to the absence of so many of of our regulars these days, turned out to be somewhat ill-timed.

Impressive! ... between fifty & sixty years since I started. Steadily, though ... ... rather than heavily.

Well, we'll just have to see how it goes from January 23 till the end of next month, when I'm over in the Phils ... where fags are still a lot cheaper.

True, I've already saved a fair bit ... so much so, my cumulative bank balance finished up exceeding the ceiling amount of £16,000 by a mere £100, causing me to lose my Council Tax Rebate. Indeed, this meant resorting to drastic measures in taking out a prepaid funeral plan to get back onto it again!

You helped yourself too much Arthur (by being a saver)... so were duly punished for having done so.

I used to smoke for around 15 years. I can't remember when I gave up, but always remember saying the day they go over £5 for 20 I'm quitting... so I did, cold turkey and not smoked since.

Very well done Arthur. Hopefully you can now go without forever. Keep it up. I stopped smoking 28 years ago, just destroyed half a pack of cigs before they destroyed my life. After about a couple of months I could tell who smoked when walking through town and I couldn't stand the smell. Food began to taste better and I felt better; also, that was the time I started walking quite a lot. I still walk a fair bit now. You'll never regret giving up if you have the will to continue Arthur, so good luck for the future.
