    Nikmatnya Durian Merah Khas Banyuwangi

    Siapa sih yang tidak suka dengan durian? Pastinya, penikmat buah ini sangat banyak. Umumnya, buah tropis yang mempunyai bau khas yang harum dan berkulit tajam ini, daging buahnya berwarna kuning atau putih. Diantara berbagai jenis buah durian yang kita kenal, ada salah satu jenis yang unik, yaitu Durian Merah



    Apa perbedaan durian merah dengan jenis durian lainnya?
    Berbeda dengan dengan jenis lainnya, durian ini memiliki daging buah yang berwarna merah. Dan surganya durian merah ini terdapat di Banyuwangi.

    Durian merah atau Duren Abang ini bisa kita jumpai di Desa Kamiren Banyuwangi, Jawa Timur. Ternyata durian ini merupakan salah satu buah yang menjadi unggulan di daerah Jawa Timur, khususnya Banyuwangi. Oleh karena itu banyak para penggemar buah durian baik dari Jawa Timur maupun dari luar daerah Jawa Timur rela datang hanya untuk menikmati buah ini.



    Durian yang nama latinnya Durio graveolens memiliki ciri daging buah yang berwarna merah. Berbeda dengan durian pada umumnya, biji durian merah lebih kecil dan daging buahnya pun lebih tebal dan lebih manis. Kadar alkoholnya pun lebih rendah dan aroma buah lebih menyengat. Untuk ukuran, buah ini berukuran sedang atau sedikit lebih kecil dibanding durian lain. Warna kulit buah tidak berbeda dengan jenis lainnya.

    Kapan waktu panen durian merah?
    Cara hidup buah ini sama seperti jenis lainnya yaitu tumbuh di daerah tropis pada ketinggian kurang lebih 800 meter diatas permukaan laut. Akan tetapi waktunya berbuah tidak menentu, tidak bisa dipastikan kapan durian ini berbuah. Yang pasti adalah durian merah hanya berbuah sekali dalam setahun.

    Menurut Ketua Pusat Penelitian dan Pengembangan Durian Merah Banyuwangi, Eko Mulyanto, awal pengembangan durian ini telah dilakukan sejak tahun 2007 dan hanya 3 pohon yang produktif. Namun tahun 2014 sudah ada 200 pohon durian merah yang bisa dipanen tiap tahun. “Penyebaran pohon durian merah ada di 5 kecamatan yaitu Songgon, Glagah, Kalipuro, Licin dan Giri. Untuk durian merah ini juga dikembangkan di Blitar Selatan, Bogor dan Bandung. Selain itu pengembangan teknologi durian merah juga dilakukan di Thailand, Malaysia dan Korea,” jelasnya.

    Untuk menjaga agar durian merah Banyuwangi tidak kehilangan identiasnya sebagai ikon daerah, setiap pengiriman bibit keluar daerah dilakukan pencatatan dihadapan notaris. Seiring perkembangan penyebarannya, dari 200 pohon itu ada 62 varian asli Banyuwangi yang berhasil dikembangkan yang tersebar di 5 kecamatan. Namun yang sudah diumumkan ke publik baru 32 jenis dan yang bisa dikonsumsi buahnya hanya 25 jenis. Yang lain dagingnya masih tipis jadi masih dikembangkan. Sedangkan jenis yang layak masuk dalam kategori internasional ada 11 jenis varian.

    Dari 62 varian tersebut, durian ini dikelompokkan menjadi tiga kelompok berdasarkan warna daging buahnya. Yaitu Durian Merah Blocking yang seluruh dagingnya berwarna merah, Durian Merah Pelangi yang dagingnya berwarna merah dan kuning, serta Durian Grafika yang dagingnya berwarna kuning, putih dan merah. Ketiganya bisa dibedakan dari pohonnya, dimana daunnya memiliki kekhasan masing-masing
