Seems to me the mercury has risen and the wind dropped a bit during the past 24 hours here in central Scotland.

Still damp 'n' miserable, though - leaving me wondering ... ... what conditions are like elsewhere
in UK.

Feeling a bit chilly and miserable here in central England.

This is the seventh anniversary of Typhoon Yolanda which devastated whole areas of the Philippines, particularly Tacloban, so I guess we should not complain too much.

More than twenty-five years since I was last stuck in the UK for winter, just hope they get the pubs open soon.

Spot on ... its origins are, indeed, Germanic.

said, however, the expression came top of a poll conducted by the Scottish Book Trust which judged it as being a uniquely appropriate adjective for describing the native Scots weather, i.e, bleak 'n' dreary.
