    Hello from Ako

Well, I wanted to cook some filipino food at home, as I started to miss my ex-girlfriends cooking. So I dicided to come on here and look at some recipes (but never found what I wanted to cook) started to look at other things and then it dawned on me, that although I have been a member on here for many years, I had never posted a message or introduction. So it's a big belated hello from me.

Kind regards Daniel from near London in the UK.

Haha... better late than never, eh.

Unfortunately...can't even help, as even though living here in the Phils, I cook almost 100% British style.

I must admit I am quite adventurous in the kitchen, not a great cook, but I do try. I think if I lived abroad I would probably cook mainly the little pleasures from home.

Merry Christmas to you and your family.

    Kind regards Daniel.

My wife is a great cook and she always cooks filipino dishes that i love.
    My best are ..
Chicken Afritada, that is chicken with no bones in it.
Humba, that is a pork dish. Again i insist it has no lumps of fat as the Filipino dishes have bones and fat in.
    Adobo, a chicken dish.
    Ginamay, pork dish.
These are the dishes i like the most and of course i love the sea food, especially prawns. Cook them in a wok, do not use oil but use coca cola. they taste very sweet and i could eat them every day along with a mango and banana homemade shake. The yellow mangos in the Philippines are out of this world.

I am sure you can find these recipes on the net.

    Hello Rory

I have never heard of using Coca-Cola for a oil replacement, I will definitely give this one a go as it is a completely different cooking idea.

I have now cooked the classic chicken adobo a couple of times now, but going to give Ginamay ago soon. Thanks for the suggestions.

    Kind regards Daniel.

Go for the prawns cooked in Coca-cola, you will be amazed at the taste.
We call them prawns but in the Philippines they always seem to call them Shrimp.

Is there really a difference ?

I will definitely give this a go Rory.

I think most nations refer to prawns as shrimp. I have only heard people from UK, Ireland and commonwealth nation's refer to shimp as prawns.

I personally refer to the larger shimp from the sea as prawns, and small species as shrimp if from the sea or freshwater.

    Kind regards Daniel.
