hi joe.i think and i hope that the new tier system shall apply to applicants on march/april not to newly granted work permit holders. i was on a 2 year work permit when i arrived on 2005 and got another new 5 year work permit granted on 2007 so it expires on 2012....i wish, i hope, i pray....i wont be affected by the changes....not unless qualifying period extends again from 5 years to another 7 years or longer.....i shall have nervous breakdaown then as i almost had while renewing

well you can apply for ILR in 2 years, unless the gov is forced into changing it from 5 years back to 4 years... or maybe they will change it again in march/april

oh who knows what the changes will be, oh i think it might effect all on work permits, maybe they will allow a transition period.. i hope your reading up on it lady

are you a care worker or a nurse katie ?

Hi Katie, welcome to the forum...

thanks for the link. im not a nurse. i practiced as a medical technologist in the Philippines but did not get a placement in the laboratory, but was lucky enough to get a senior carer's job on 2005. i still work in a care setting but now manage the residential unit in a nursing and residential centre, which sponsored my new 5 year work permit. well, all i can do now is hope that my status will stay unaffected by the changes this spring...or else...

this site is the most welcoming...to confess ...this is the first time i joined a forum...

thanks. you are definitely right, life is about change, and we always have to keep up with it...sometimes its tiring...sometimes you get fed up... it cheers you up when its beautiful...and sometimes you just want to give up when its painful... and then find the reason to keep on fighting....

am i allowed to moan here

my wife is a registered doc in the phils, but she needs to pass her plab exams to work here is a doc, she took the plab1 last week, but it was really difficult, so looks like she be taking it again in april , she works in the nhs as a SATO (senior assistant technical officer) part time, and get paid nearly as much as me ..

once you get your ILR, keep trying to get into the nhs, its worth it..
