A decree absoulte is a must if you want a smooth visa process, otherwise you have to prove the process will be completed before your marriage, and this is a difficult thing to do, as you need legal proof from yourself, and your ex, that it will be completed in a certain date, and the legal system in this country can't do that!

Rules have recently changed, you just book it the first week she arrives, she has 6 months to do it in though, and does not need further authorisation when here, as that is granted in the visa.
Some people get away with knowing their women for 3 months, and the fact you have been living with her helps a great deal. You will need plenty of evidence that you have been living together, letters, bills, etc.
