Some help and advice please

First off I would like to thank all of you for supplying a great forum and web site. I have enjoyed reading the stories from other members and have gathered a lot of information from you all.

However I would like some help in answering a few questions for me please. I have searched the forum for answers but I am a little unsure so I thought it best to ask you guys.

I have read about obtaining a fiancé visa and all the relevant information I would need to send to Anne but I would like to check to see if what I am doing is right.

First is this, what is the best course of action a wedding in Philippines (and apply for the right visa) or a wedding here? We were planning a marriage here in the UK. (Using a Fiancé visa) what would be the right way to go about both (visas and appropriate paper work?)

I am planning to fly over and meet Anne in July and asked for her hand in marriage then but I might also fly back over in October and ask her hand then and just use July to see Anne and her family. No matter what I choose the marriage will be next year. (Time to save and all that)

We are have started to save all emails and YM logs and I have already arranged for money to be available to support her for the time she will not be allowed to work (£3000) and also I am arranging for the money her family will be losing because Anne will not be working to be sent to them. My family has also agreed to help with supporting Anne when she is here. (Would I need to pass this information onto the visa people?)

So what is the best visa to apply for (Fiancé or Marriage?)

What information should I sending Anne?

Is a marriage here or the Philippines an easier option to obtaining a visa? (Its seams a 50/50 thing from what I have read)

And booking a wedding here? Can some one explain more on this please? (I have read a lot but I am still lost)

I am also a man of the modern age….. so are written letters really necessary? Only my written hand is well……crap. And I have been using emails to contact friends and family for the over 8 years. So will emails still be ok for a form of communication or would a written letter or two help... Anne is in the position that they have a PC for the family to use and we use this to chat and email with each other.

I also have a Skype phone that we use and I don’t know if this has a log system so can I use this as proof of contact. (Does anyone know?)

My advice is get married in the Philipines

many reasons starting with it will be SIGNIFICANTLY less expensive

secondly you asking Anne to come and live in this wonderful country - to give up her family life, close friends, sunshine etc etc .....

she will miss them terribly and they her

give Anne and her family - a Dream Wedding - something that they will be proud of and enjoy the prestige for a long time ....

In terms of the visa application - I think that one is as straightforward as the other - but the big advantage of being married adn obtaining a spouse visa is that she can work immediately. This can be a big help as you set out on your new life in wonderful UK &#33;&#33;&#33;

Thank you all for your advice.

I was 98% heading for a Philippines wedding for the reasons listed in mupsuit reply. I just needed the push in the right direction.

And thank you to admin for posting all the links, I will look at them at the weekend when I have more time to take the information in.

I know Anne would miss her family and we have talk at length about this. With her already having the internet in the home I am planning to install a broadband service for her family so we can use the Skype video phone better. We are also planning to return to her family a few times a year. But if she does not like it here at all then once I have sorted out things here in the UK then I would sell up and move to the Philippines. I know this will be hard for me a little but my home is worth a hell of a lot more then what I paid for it before the boom of 2000.

As in Anne’s favourite song says “Love will find away”

My view about this
a ) Its cheaper to get married in Philippines - we are talking hundreds rather than thousands
b ) Your lady&#39;s family will be there, they can&#39;t afford or won&#39;t get visas to come for a UK wedding
c ) The application for the settlement visa will be a lot smoother, as Pete will confirm.

Well We married in Phill and like all the others say it was cheaper by miles than the equivalent in the UK. Also your family if they are able can come out to the wedding but its unlikely your girlfriends family can see their daughter married in the UK unless they able to obtain Visas to the UK.

Written Letters are not a must, like you we wote emails which we put in the file a few in from each month as examples. We had a few Cards (birthdays valetines and the like) we had sent one another and receipts of Parcels we had sent between us both. Plus Phone bill with sms, alpha telecom phne bills listing calls and logs of yahoo we also used skype sometimes although we did not show the logs from them but im sure its possible to screen shot the chat session logs files and print out to add to your file.

With regards to what Anne would do here in the UK, have you thought about her job skills? Whats her English both spoken and written like? Now is the time for her to work on her English Skills. Firstly for any Interview she might have to have with the British Embassy, at present many people are not having to have an interview to obtain a Visa but that of course could change as the Procedure has changed several times since i have been in a relationship with my Wife.

My Wife now has a job in a coffe shop in the london area, but due to the mass influx of cheap labour from around the world it is now much harder to get a basic service industry job in many areas of the UK in the last few years. My Wife was lucky and also the Manager noted her English qualifcation and skills helped get her postion, as well as some very basic work experience back in phil. Studying for an Ielts is fairly easy with the aid of a few books and cds or mp3s and my wife found watching the BBC world service as often as possible. She took the Exam in manilia but its possible to take in various locations around phill.

My Wife sat on a table with a guy trying to get an ielts level six pass so he could obtain his Visa for Aus. I think both Austriallia and canada already require a certain level of English qualfication before you enter the country who is to say in the future this will not be brought in by the UK?

Do invest in broadband for the family in phill both while Anne is there and other as it will be far cheaper to pay both of your broadband bills both in the uk and phill than have a huge Phone bill erach month.

Seriously though I managed to keep my wedding small and quick over here with family and a few friends at a restaurant for a small cost, it is very easy to get swept along with things in the P.I. We had our boys baptised there with a party afterwards where all the street turns up for the food then buggers off

Ours cost around £1200.00 plus £750.00 for the Singapore Honeymoon, what else was there ?

It went like this

Php 36,000 for the wedding package at the hotel.

100 guests for a 6 course sit down meal.

Limo for the Nanay and Tatay, and the usual suspects to come in.

Ice Carvings of the Doves and birds and things.

UK-Fil backdrop which I designed on a sketch pad, they made it heheheheh,

All drinks,

Wine tasting,

Cake,

Decorations

Swag for the flowers,

flowers

Php 7000.00

Tickets for the Titos and Titas to fly down from Manila Php 20,000

Brides outfit and Barong Tagalog, another Php 5000

It all came out to £1200.00

Which I consider to be reasonable.
