    Gf coming to Thailand

My Pinoy gf says I need to write a signed letter plus a signed copy of my passport for her to join me in Bangkok for a month.

    Worded to the effect of:

This letter is to request that you allow my gf ______________ the holder of the pasport number ________________ TO VISIT THAILAND

Is it too much to hope that this will be sufficient info for her to be allowed to pass through immigration freely without let or hinderance or cash bribe?

She has been here three times thus far, the last time she came from Hong Kong, the time before we flew together from Manila but the first time she was stopped at immigration because she didn't have the right info, though it does seem to be a bit Russian Roulette with immigration at Manila.

My visa expires in about 45 days, by which time we will either be working together in Dubai or stay with friends in China. I am on an extended tourist visa but have my own address - not that they should need to know all this.

The bottom line is she's joining me on holiday.

    Advice warmly appreciated.

if im not mistaken we (filipino passport holders) can enter thailand without a visa for 30 days as thailand is part of the ASEAN countries.

i did not need a visa the last time i entered and the immigration officer did tell me i was allowed up to 30 days, unless the rules have changed.

^ I think when they are travelling alone they are subject to scrutiny by certain immigration staff. I don't want to give them any excuse to make problems.

To know if a visa is required or what are the requirements, the best "visa calculator" I know is this one (they really keep it updated and it's valid whatever citizenchip and countries are; and it even it take in account transits): http://www.nwa.com/services/timatic.html

They say for your case: no visa for tourist stay up to 30 days. Passport valid 6 months after return date. Return ticket required. Fee 1900THB, 1 passport photo required.Note: there is a max. limit of a total of 90 days stay withinany 6 month period.

If you want a confirmation, you have to go to the destination country embassy web site of the residency country if this web site exists. If not ask the travel agency or airline where you want to buy the tickets (but it may not be perfectly accurate). Last idea is to call or visit to this embassy.

You can try the invitation letter, the main issue for immigrations (in all countries) is to be sure that the person is not willing to overstay... so write it carefully in accordance.
    Best regards.
    Yves

    erm

I think the letter is for her to leave the philippines, rather than enter thailand?

my lady had a big hassle flying from manilla->hk because she didn't have details of the hotel reservation. they eventually let her board after showing philippine immigration, all the pics of me on her cellphone lol
