    dependent children...

    hello...good day..

i just wanna ask how u guys interpret the word as "dependent children" ...

My bf got divorce with his wife and has children from his previous marriage with her but they are all living with his ex wife, i wonder if we will going to count them as dependent children which he supported them through in a monthly basis and just at their minor age.....out of he only had one child living with him since then....do we put them all and counted as dependent children includes the one living with his ex or we just count the one whose living with him on the same roof.?

Do we include the names of his children as his children even if it is living away from him and have their own life and already be on their exact age like i mean above 18 or just the minor age one who counted as his children...sounds confusing....

please do enlighten up as we do badly need to fill up the form correctly as....

    HOw to answer this one:

    Hi there,
My situation was similar when my wife was filling out her forms. My 3 children mostly lived with my ex-wife but as I was supporting them they still counted as dependant children.
I would say that a child over 18 is not dependant although the Child Support Agency class any child still in education as dependant up until 19. To quote their website...

Child maintenance is payable all the time that Child Benefit is being paid and the child is:

    aged under 16; or
    aged 16 to 19 and in full-time non-advanced education

If the qualifying child is in advanced or higher education they would no longer qualify for child support maintenance. Some examples of advanced and higher education are:

    Advanced Education and Higher Education
    Degree
    NVQ level 4 and above
    DHE
    HND
    BTEC HNC / HND
    SCOTVEC HNC / HND
    Teacher Training
When a child leaves full time education in the summer, Child Benefit generally continues until the first week of September.

    I hope this helps
