In my mahals case it is just being thoughtful and considerate, I get told off if I waste money on expensive gifts for her!!!. She can however be tempted by a new pair of shoes. I am arranging a bank loan for when she arrives in the Uk in April and absolutely needs at at least two dozn pairs of boots, shoes and rubber shoes!!!
