    What do I call the in-laws ?

My wifes parents are arriving from Manila for a three month holiday......what do I call them ?

Mum or Dad is just not right ! It is certainly very unusual in this country and I would feel very very odd....Nanay/Tatay ?

In fact looking at the web - there seems to be an Asian/West divide - most people certainly here would call them by their first names....sus maria joseph !

You'll call the mother-in-law a lot of things....just don't say it to her face

Sometimes BRITS call their Mother in Law the dragon, others call her the old bag, you can't use those phrases in the Philippines, its not thought to be funny, respectful terms are used.

Mother in law jokes in the Philippines are not funny.

    call them lola / lolo

As the other members said ask your wife or in-laws what they prefer you to call them.

If your in-laws are really old try doing the 'mano or bless' to them, it's just one of the Philippine tradition and repect to the adult or old people.

Ask your wife to demonstrate to you how to do the 'mano or bless'.
Not an expert, I only try to help.
