Car breakdown

The day after I got back from London, my car's clutch hidraulics jacked it in.....

Not wanting to lose valuable sales during a normally lean period, I did go out and rented a wreck.

My car is now in a garage that specializes in Rovers, and after 3 days I am still in the dark as to the scale and approximate cost of the problem with it.
I phoned the guys a couple of times, but apparently they haven't had the time to look at it yet.

I am expecting an exorbitant estimate, as there is nobody else, really, wanting to touch Rover cars around here.

The upsetting thing is the NOT knowing.....
After all I have a couple of credit cards just for something like that happening.
I just hope that I am just panicking for nothing, and it will be just a couple or three hundred quid.... But I ain't holding my breath.....

It looks like as if I will have to take next week as holiday, as although the hire car is working fine, it does not inspire much confidence...
And even if it was cheap, it is not as cheap as I wanted it to be.

Oh, well. poo does happen.....

1. Oil leak fixed
2. New brake light bulb
3. Clutch adjustment and new spring fitted on cable.
4. Choke adjustment

BMW? Evil things.
I found this, its obviously a spoof, but funny all the same:

"The other day I was cruising along as usual coming onto one of my motorways, which was very busy with inferior cars.

First off, I couldn't believe that the volume of traffic DIDN'T slow down for me AT ALL as I came off the slip road! I had to squeeze into a barely big enough gap between two cars in order to get onto my motorway!

The driver of the car behind me did realise his mistake though and honked an apology to me with a long blast of his horn.

Unbelievably, I had to do the same again before I could get to the BMW lane. Anyway, once I was in the BMW lane and posing along at 110 mph enjoying the adulation that the inferior car drivers were giving me, I noticed an inferior car ahead of me which was not only in the BMW lane of my motorway, but was driving at a ridiculous 70 mph!

Naturally, I got within a foot or so of his rear bumper and flashed my headlights to remind him he shouldn't be in the BMW lane of my motorway and to get out of my way. Of course, once he realised it was a BMW behind him, he did just that, but I could hardly believe it when he pulled straight back out behind me!

He also tried to keep up with me and when he realised I would out-run him, he put on some blue lights in his front grill and urged me to get onto the hard shoulder so that he could congratulate me on my excellent car. Needless to say, I was eager to oblige and when we had stopped, the man gave me a piece of paper confirming what I already knew - that my car goes fast!

Apparently he wants everyone to know what a superior car I have, so I had to take my drivers licence to a police station to be sent away to have some points put on! (They're not free points either - they're £20 each and I was only allowed 3.) But the man at the police station said that because I drive a BMW, it won't be much longer before I earn the full 12 points, and then I won't even NEED a driving licence, so they will take it off me!

See, now THAT'S the sort of respect you get when you own and drive a BMW!"

I had my xantia fixed by a local Pinoy mechanic here in Nottingham, I bought the new clutch for £65.00 and he charges me £70 for the labor, should be cheaper if he hasn't raised the entire engine. Some cars had their engine blocked by something under the car, could be part of the body design, so in order to replace the clutch, the entire engine should be lifted up and down to the ground. If this is your case, expect a huge bill, unless there is some pinoy mechanic in your vicinity.

I drove my rent-a-reck to the garage earlier as I had to pick a few bits out of my car's boot and the verdict is nasty, but not as bad as feared.... For now....

They had just had a look at it, and apparently it is the clutch master cylinder at fault.

The quick estimate is £600/650, as they have to take the gearbox assembly out, to be able to replace the part....

Obviously as "they do", they will find something else that will need repairing or replacing, pushing the costs a little higher....

With some luck, I might be able to have my car back, late friday afternoon (tomorrow)....
Now, if I only could remember where I did put the credit card cheques...

Picked the car up on Friday afternoon....
According to them....
They did loads of work changing the clutch and the slave cylinder........

According to me....
The alleged work they did wasn't worth the 600 quid I had to fork out....

I need to push the clutch pedal all the way to the floor to get some grinding engagement noises....

Also while driving, the brakes where were very spongy and failed on one occasion, luckily without any serious consequences. But still......

Tomorrow morning, monday, I will return the car to the garage and ask them to bleed the master cylinder's oil reservoir, because I don't think they did that properly.
I can still stop the credit card cheque....
