    Try a Globe SIM card...

Just for information that may be helpful to any of you guys in the UK, I got myself a Globe SIM for my mobile its saved my wife a fortune in text messages! Just make sure that your set up for roaming! I think you can do the same with SMART also? One point to remember is to keep at least a 300 peso load!

    Hope that can help someone

    Darren

I got the sim card in the Philippines yes, I think though if your loved one is there they can post over to you as long as your mobile is not locked to a particular network! I use a motorola phone that's not locked.
As I said in the first post you do have to maintain a balance of 300 peso but that will last for a long time I will find out more info later when I online with the wife.

Yes me and the wife do that also, she will send me a text to let me know she is going to online and I use my O2 to text back, so no need to use GLOBE for anything other than receiving texts.

I have a "touch" mobile sim card that I got in Phils. If I put it in an unlocked phone here in UK, will it be cheap for my GF to text me, I think she is on Globe there?

did you ensure that you activated roaming before you left? This needs to be done first... Plus you need to be in credit... but yes it would be

I am still in credit but didn't activate roaming as the limited instructions I received were in Tagalog
Can I activate it from UK in any way?

    Cheap Text

Another thing is advice your Gf/wife to use TEXTWISE cost only 5 pesos per txt. I normally used Ym (I'm on sms status) before but it consume my mobile deposit even im not using it. As I noticed receive txt charge me as well then sometimes I can't receive some text from ym..
So I decided to use another option which is TEXTWISE I can text my BF UK number directly in a cheap rate.
For further details visit local reloading outlet..

Thanks ate Juliet for advising it

No you cant. It should only be activated in the Philippines. I’m using Smart and I have it roaming. You have to maintain P100.00 credit with your Smart sim. Globe, on the other hand has another service offered to OFW, they have a special sim of which you don’t have to maintain a balance.

it does not cost me anything to send a txt via YM to my wife, she just has to link her ym account to her cell phone (i don't know how she does it though). she also has to txt back to my ym occassionally in order for it to continue working (i think there's a limit), it cost 2.50PHP. otherwise she pays 20PHP for 24 hours unlimited txt to my smart fone.

You can buy roaming-enabled Phils SIMs online in UK ... I'll look up the details if someone is interested.
