sponsoring a student visa

Hi everyone!!!
I am new here. Very glad i've found this site!!!
I am a Filipino nurse working in one of the hospitals here in Manchester. I had my ILR already and i'm due to apply for my citizenship. I married to a British National 3 years ago.
I just wanted to seek help and advise from you all. Me and my husband are planning to sponsor my only brother to come here in England as a student. He is already accepted in one of the college here on a 2 year BTEC course in Hospitality and Catering. I am now waiting for the Letter of Acceptance to be send by the college. The course starts in September. We will be his sponsor in all of his financial expenses from the college fees to accomodation and etc. We wanted to help him achieve his dream to study here specially on this particular course. My concerns are as follows:

1. Are we qualified to be his full sponsor? Both of us are working full time and a home owner.
2. What are the other qualifications of a sponsor?
3. My brother hasn't got enough financial capacity nor has a big savings in the bank. Will this disqualify him knowing he hasn't got any money to show?
4. I am worried his application might be declined. Do you think we need to seek help from an expert agency that assist in processing student visa?
5. If so, do you know of an agency that provides services in processing this visa?

Please help! Your valuable opinion and advise are very much appreciated. Looking forward for all your kind response. Thank you sooooo much!!!

impossible to say wether he will get a student visa, but many are refused thou ..

but most refusals for granting a visa occur when an immigration officer does not believe:

* That the sponsor or you really has the money available
* That the sponsor will really pay that money

NOTE: Students intending to undertake postgraduate studies or research in certain designated subjects are required to have an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) clearance prior to making an application for entry clearance. Student Visa

Please provide photocopies of all the documents you will be submitting:

1. A completed visa application form: Student Form (VAF3 OCT 2007)
2. One recent coloured and unframed passport sized photos taken with a light background approximately 45mm X 35mm in size and glued not stapled onto the designated space for the picture in the application form.
3. Visa fee in pesos. Payable across the Bank counter or Manager’s Check (only from BPI, Banco de Oro, Metrobank & Standard Chartered bank), made payable to the British Embassy Manila.
4. Current passport valid for at least 6 months and any old passports.
5. Any secondary university or other qualifications or certificates you presently hold.
6. A letter of acceptance from the college or university showing:
a. Cost of course and evidence of any deposit/fee made.
b. Accommodation available.
c. How many hours study per week.
d. Dates and duration of course.
7. Evidence of funds available for the course. We would recommend you supply up-to-date detailed bank statements and other savings covering a period of 6 months prior to the date of application.
8. If your sponsor is in the UK a copy of his passport including the personal details page and all the stamped pages. If your UK sponsor is funding your accommodation course fees and maintaining you in the UK we also require evidence of their income and finances such as pay slips and bank savings accounts held.
9. If you have studied English before please provide evidence in the form of certificates.
10. A completed Student Visa Questionnaire Form.
11. If you are a student visa dependants.
a. Evidence that your sponsor can support you financially. We would recommend you supply your sponsor's up-to-date detailed bank statements and other savings. You may also submit evidence of bank funds held in the Philippines and remittance slips if applicable.
b. If you are joining your spouse we require your marriage contract on National Statistics Office (NSO) security paper.
c. If you are a child under 18 we require your birth certificate on NSO security paper.
d. A full copy of your sponsors passport including the personal details page blank pages all stamped pages and pages with UK visas or Home Office extensions of stay.
e. Evidence that your sponsor has adequate accommodation. If they live in a rented property written evidence is required from the UK landlord or estate agent. This should detail how many people are presently renting the property approval for you to live there the number of bedrooms in the property and how many rooms are available for the exclusive use of you and your sponsor. If your sponsor owns a property in the UK then copies of mortgage documents are required.
12. If you are applying as an unmarried or same sex dependant of a student visa holder:
a. Evidence of any previous cohabitation. We would suggest the following as examples: joint commitments (such as joint bank accounts investments rent agreements, mortgage etc) or
b. If there are children of the relationship a record of their birth entry or
c. correspondence which links you and your sponsor to the same address; or
d. any official records of you sharing the same address (e.g. Doctors records etc);or
e. Any other evidence that adequately demonstrates your commitment to each other.
13. If you are applying at the same time as your sponsor is applying for their student visa.
a. A full copy of your sponsor's passport.
b. Evidence of accommodation in the UK.
c. However you should provide details of any accommodation arranged in the UK.
14. 14. A signed Visa Application Checklist (please click on the corresponding link of your computer screen).

Thank you so much for that very informative and detailed instructions. I sincerely appreciate your kind response. Yah, I know, only in His time that we could find the right time. That's why I am pervently praying and seeking for His help, guidance and blessings.
Anyway, me and my husband will be sponsoring my brother. I think we have to prepare all the documents needed. Do you think it is helpful to ask for an expert assistance or just my brother himself to apply in the embassy?

Hi Cristina

Invariably, I have seen postings that suggest avoiding so-called expert assistance.

You have not said how old your brother is; if he is too young to be relied upon to handle the application process himself, I would suggest trying to get a responsible family memmber to assist him with his application.

You ability to sponsor is key to the success of his application as ith all the others.

I have a cousin who's on UK now studying/taking NVQ course. He graduated a 4year bachelors degree here in RP then took Caregiver training course. His sponsor (his relative) submitted an updated bank statement to the embassy including the photocopy of sponsor's UK passport. He also submitted his own bank statement.
