How Long until you can travel outside the UK?

My partner has arrived in the Uk, how loing does she have to reside in the Uk before she can visit other countries.

Have heard some conflicting stories here.

When in europe you need a special visa that will allow you to travel straight away but remember there is a max amount of days you are allowed to stay out of the country when preparing for certain visas.
