    medical check-up at airport

I have a friend holding a spouse visa who just arrived here last friday. I told her before that she will need to undergo a medical check-up at airport. She was scared to have an x-ray as she smokes for ages. She didn't take any medical check-up in the Philippines. But when she arrived, she didn't undergo any medical check-up at airport. That made her feels upset towards me.She said I made her so scared and nervous. Now, she asked one question again regarding her 16 year old son from her past relationship. She said she wants to bring her son here in the UK. I said if I give you wrong info, I may upset you again.
Is there anybody here who didn't have medical check-up at airport? How about the chances of bringing her 16 year old son here?
    Thanks in advance

They only employ 1 staff to do the medicals, this is Britain you know, so he must have been having a pee, a dinner break, or a fag break, when she went through.

i thought all visa's issued for over 6 months had to have a scan/x-ray done

she could well be asked to attend hospital for tests soon,

my stepson was asked to, after he had been in the uk a couple of months and he wasn't scanned at the airport..

as for her 16yr old, she better get him here b4 hes 18 or it's too late..
need to apply a settlement visa for him, need evidence shes been supporting him, who been looking after him?, where his father?.. etc..

She is a single mom and not married with his son's dad. His 70 year old grand dad looks after him. He is using his Mom surname. My Thai friend said she need to stay here for 2-3 years after having a British passport. That time, her son will turns 18. Her husband said, he will help her to get her son, but that was when her husband earns 800£ / week truck driver goes home once a month. But he resigned from his job and found a job that can goes home weekly, but he earns half of his past wages. My friend sadly doesn't want to work. She said her husband can support her stay here as wife.
I wish she can still bring her son

you mean she was a single mom when she had her son ? and her son has her surname, is the father mentioned on his birth cert ?

now she is married to a brit, and here on a spouse visa ?

i don't know what your thai friend is talking about, the 2 to 3 yrs might be about, she needs to be in the uk at least 3 years to apply for citizenship and get a british passport, but that has got nothing to do with bringing her son here..

she could have applied for a settlement visa for him, as her dependant when she applied for a spouse visa.. and she can apply for a settlement visa for him anytime, she needs to gather evidence for his app thou..

but she must do it b4 hes 18, or he has no chance of being able to live in the uk with him mom,

whats he doing now ? is he still at school or working ?

i think if you was not asked at the airport, then The HO send your details to a local clinic, who will ask you to make an appointment to come for a x-ray, which is used to check for TB.

I am not sure about his birth certificate. Yes, she was single, her BF ran when he learned that my friend was preggy. She sent her son to her province. She didn't apply a settlement for him because her hubby said, he cannot afford to pay 2 visas.

once he reaches 18, he has virtually no chance of being able to live in the uk,,,

    hey pennybarry!

im just curious about this info. especially that i will be flying to UK soon. do we really need to bring our chest x-ray & medical card/ health card with us? will they honor x-ray results coming from Phils.?

i know this is not true to all as others were not asked about it in the immigration, but its better to be prepared than end up nothing in hand when asked.

Thanks ahead for your reply sis!

well her son must stay with them, not get a job, must be dependant on her, and not get married..

yes if he could do a full time course at college, thats good evidence hes dependant on them, soon as he's got his ilr, quit college if he wants and find a job then , but it will cost a bit for him to goto college, as he will have to pay international fees and also have to pay a ILR fee for him to, as he will be over 18, even thou hes a dependant

Sorry to tell he's not doing well in school and at his age, he's still in high school. Her hubby applied 2 bedroom council house for three of them. His application was easily approved so I was expecting that she will come together with her son.

    Islander,

It depends on which airport you fly into . Glasgow didn't require any x-rays or medical card/ health card from Lanie but if you fly into Heathrow ( London) it seems to be a hit or miss whether you need them

I suspect that too. Pia will be flying into Leeds/Bradford via Amsterdam. I doubt they have the facilities there.

I arrived in Heathrow airport but wasn't required to show the chest x-ray results which i brought with me. I thought of bringing one just in case it will be needed.

well i think he has a better chance if he shows he is dependant on them by being at college etc..

and as for TB xrays - http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/resources/...llyoutestfortb

Her son is still studying high school in the province, His mom is trying to gather info. She has no PC and don't know how to use it. I can research about his son thru forum and embassy website too but I want to tell her accurately as she is sometimes sensitive and I feel she changed when she arrived UK. Her husband made promises before that he will bring his stepson, thats why he applied 2 bedroom council house. At first, the wife wants his husband to adopt the child and use her husband surname. But they learned it cost a thousand £ and since then I heard no news from her.

why would he want to adopt him? he's already his step father. yes it cost alot to adopt, her son can change his name by deed poll when he is here..

    http://www.ukdps.co.uk/CanIChangeMyChildrensNames.html cost less than £40 ..

he can then use his step fathers name, but he will not be able to change name on birth cert..

like i said, she has to get him here b4 hes 18..

    Agreed with Joe.

Hi Penny, tell your friend that if she really wants to get her son, she must do this asap or before her son turns 18 otherwise his son will be count as an adult and can work fulltime.

don't think so ladyj, its a fee for each person, dependant or not..

FLR and ILR is free for under 18's thou .. settlement visa is not

    Apologies for that.

I was basing to a close friend who included her dependant/underage daughter with her spouse visa application and they both received a visa.

What do you think of this Joe?

    from http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/resources/...3/vaf4guidance settlement guidance notes..

4.10 Please list any of your children who will be travelling with
    you to the UK
Please note that any children travelling with you may also need a visa.
If they need a visa, they will have to fill in their own application form.

i'm sure ladyj some people have got away with paying just one fee

but why does it say 'may need' a visa. you need a visa to come to the uk, so why use the word 'may'

    and from http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/ecg/chapter7/

7.2 - Who pays and how much?
    Current fees
Dependants are charged the same fee as that paid by the main applicant with whom their application is connected. All dependants who are travelling must pay the appropriate fee whether or not they are included in the main applicant’s passport.

also the fee visa is for 'processing the application' so i suppose if you make an application then you have to pay a fee..

but like you said, i heard of people with kids who only made one payment, so it might be worthwhile phoning the embassy and asking b4 anyone pays, but i think you will have to pay
