medical check-up at airport

I have a friend holding a spouse visa who just arrived here last friday. I told her before that she will need to undergo a medical check-up at airport. She was scared to have an x-ray as she smokes for ages. She didn't take any medical check-up in the Philippines. But when she arrived, she didn't undergo any medical check-up at airport. That made her feels upset towards me.She said I made her so scared and nervous. Now, she asked one question again regarding her 16 year old son from her past relationship. She said she wants to bring her son here in the UK. I said if I give you wrong info, I may upset you again.
Is there anybody here who didn't have medical check-up at airport? How about the chances of bringing her 16 year old son here?

They only employ 1 staff to do the medicals, this is Britain you know, so he must have been having a pee, a dinner break, or a fag break, when she went through.

my stepson was asked to, after he had been in the uk a couple of months and he wasn't scanned at the airport..

as for her 16yr old, she better get him here b4 hes 18 or it's too late..
need to apply a settlement visa for him, need evidence shes been supporting him, who been looking after him?, where his father?.. etc..

She is a single mom and not married with his son's dad. His 70 year old grand dad looks after him. He is using his Mom surname. My Thai friend said she need to stay here for 2-3 years after having a British passport. That time, her son will turns 18. Her husband said, he will help her to get her son, but that was when her husband earns 800£ / week truck driver goes home once a month. But he resigned from his job and found a job that can goes home weekly, but he earns half of his past wages. My friend sadly doesn't want to work. She said her husband can support her stay here as wife.

i don't know what your thai friend is talking about, the 2 to 3 yrs might be about, she needs to be in the uk at least 3 years to apply for citizenship and get a british passport, but that has got nothing to do with bringing her son here..

I am not sure about his birth certificate. Yes, she was single, her BF ran when he learned that my friend was preggy. She sent her son to her province. She didn't apply a settlement for him because her hubby said, he cannot afford to pay 2 visas.

i have the same experienced as well when i arrive in heathrow airport the immigration officer asked me if i have chest x-ray which i don't have. i am not worried bec i don't drink nor smoke at all my only worries is my husband been waiting for me outside as my plane lands at 6:30am and i turned out at 9am:(

i ask some who just arrive in UK if they have medical at the airport actually some of them have it some don't..so don't know how it works

i think if you was not asked at the airport, then The HO send your details to a local clinic, who will ask you to make an appointment to come for a x-ray, which is used to check for TB.

im just curious about this info. especially that i will be flying to UK soon. do we really need to bring our chest x-ray & medical card/ health card with us? will they honor x-ray results coming from Phils.?

i know this is not true to all as others were not asked about it in the immigration, but its better to be prepared than end up nothing in hand when asked.

It depends on which airport you fly into . Glasgow didn't require any x-rays or medical card/ health card from Lanie but if you fly into Heathrow ( London) it seems to be a hit or miss whether you need them

I suspect that too. Pia will be flying into Leeds/Bradford via Amsterdam. I doubt they have the facilities there.

I arrived in Heathrow airport but wasn't required to show the chest x-ray results which i brought with me. I thought of bringing one just in case it will be needed.

She should have include her son on her spouse application because he's dependant and under age, there's only 1 application fee on this and the son can travel later if there wasn't enough money for travel fee. well too late now.

don't think so ladyj, its a fee for each person, dependant or not..

FLR and ILR is free for under 18's thou .. settlement visa is not

my hubby also thought of flying thru KLM, in that way, my port of entry will be edinburgh airport where he worked & where he could possibly help me out if there will be problems.

anyway, still have to wait for my visa though! I'm now on my 5th week of waiting!

but why does it say 'may need' a visa. you need a visa to come to the uk, so why use the word 'may'

also the fee visa is for 'processing the application' so i suppose if you make an application then you have to pay a fee..

but like you said, i heard of people with kids who only made one payment, so it might be worthwhile phoning the embassy and asking b4 anyone pays, but i think you will have to pay

yes, just becuase someone got a visa within 3 days doesn't mean it was becuase of thier evidence was excellent, there are many factors in how quick a visa is processed, the size of the queue, random checks - which will delay the app, time of the year - holiday periods take longer, embassy staff are on hols etc, more aspps that time of year, yes it depends on the evidence and also your circumstances - i had more evidence than anyone on here, letters, bills , logs, nearly 3 years worth ! but it still took the embassy nearly 3 months to process my misses visa app (it must have taken them 3 months to look thru it )

so just becuase a friend didn't pay doesn't mean you will be so lucky , or people sent their visa app too early or too late and still got thier visa, doesn't mean the person who's dealing with your app will be so easy , maybe they know the rules and go by them ..

Me & my hubby have two options on what airline are we going to fly by the time i get there. If we'll fly thru KLM, we won't pass london- heathrow coz it will be amsterdam then edinburgh, but if we'll fly thru Qatar airways, then my point of entry will be london-heathrow. Tho we're not sure yet which of the two.

i think i'll just bring a chest x-ray with me to be sure & to avoid delays if ever i will be asked about it. do you think they will honor x-rays from Phils.?

Hi amiga. I think Heathrow is an awful airport and you can be subject to many delays for luggage, immigration, etc.

Schiphol, Amsterdam is a lovely airport. I'm there on average once a week. If I remember correctly you would arrive at about 5pm and your connection to Edinburgh is from Gate D6 at about 9pm.

The likelihood of requiring an x-ray there is also very low.

If you are transiting i.e passing though heathrow but not actually going landside (i.e in to the uk) you will be ok.

I think some other ladies have brought x rays and some countries they have to get a test as part of the visa application i belive.

You will still have to get some paperwork processed if you do use heathrow as your enter britain landside point and bring x rays. Maybe others know what difference it makes if it is busy.

When my wife arrived at heathrow there was no wait so did not make much of a difference.

like Piamed writes schipol is a lovely airport pass though it a little less than the man but one of our companies HQ is near there so spend many a mornign or evening hanging around there.

It's amazing how many people I can't seem to meet in the UK and other places but yet manage to bump into at Schiphol. I have in recent weeks twice sat next to or behind senior execs from my main rivals in one of the lounges and had to interrupt and advise them who I work for as they chatted about confidential company stuff publically.
