Calling to Phillipines - Using Mobiles

Hi all, I have spent ages trying to find the cheapest way to call your lover whilst they are abroad without using any fancy re-routing. My fiance has a mobile and I call from my mobile in the UK so is really expensive.

So far the best I have come up with is using an O2 pay as you go sim card and paying £30 and registering for "Your Country" bolt on. This gives you 200 free airtime minutes which can cost £1 per minute otherwise. I have registered 2 sim cards so get 400 minutes per month for £60. Just look on the O2 website under tariffs for Pay as you go for more details.

If anyone has any better ideas or using someting else then please share it with us all!

    Thanks,

    Wayne

can you not use a landline to phone her ?

you shouldn't be paying more than 11p a min from a uk landline to phone a mobile in the phils, you can phone for 7p a min

also use chikka to send text msgs from your pc to her mobile,,

Theres a lebara sim card which for calling phill or texting is 10 p a text/min.

A mate uses it and finds it very decent.

You get a uk phone number so can use it locally if needed i think to make and recieve calls and texts.

The wifes uses a special number and then enter the number. She tops up the credit as she needs to.

To make it less hassle for her i preprograme the numbers she uses so dial up number pause number in phill.

she uses her mobiles free mintues to call a london number and all in its 5 p a min

    Thanks for all posts.
Just got a lebara sim card for £19.95 from my local Phones4u and got £20 credit so I have made 5p already! :-)
Anyway, going to try this tomorrow and call my Fiance but it looks like calls to her in KL are 5p per minute direct from my mobile to hers. When she goes back to Manila cost is 10p but still cheaper than O2 which works our at 15p per minute and you only get 200 mins per so have to mess around with mutiple sim cards.
The Lebara went straight into me phone and works on the vodafone network and appears to be fine so will call my fiance tomorrow and report any problems. There is no messing around with transfer numbers and you can even transfer your own number. Topping up can be done online or via Sainsburys as well as other places so seems to be a great deal to me!

All texts to any country are 10p so same as O2. Calls to UK landlines and mobiles are 15p so I will avoid this and just use my normal O2 number.

    Wow great news

I know my mate was impressed but never really spoke about all the details when we met up for one reason and another.
The fact you can transfer a number is very handy im sure for many

Got a Lebara sim about a month ago and so far it's been fine. Always get through on first attempt which wasn't always my experience when using discount numbers via my landline. It's also automatically set up for roaming so can be used anywhere.
