As long as you are going somewhere that you can get English money changed you will be ok but the best way is to bring a visa debit card over and use it if you have one..

The last time i tried to get pesos in the UK the exchange rate i was offered was not good.

Better if you have a debit or credit atm card ...some banks dont accept travellers check anymore and cash is also good but be wary in carrying so many.

You could get PHP here but only enough to get you from the airport to where ever you are staying.

Take GBP with you if you feel comfortable carrying large amounts of cash and can find somewhere safe to keep them on your arrival. The money changers give excellent rates with little if any commission.

If you are going to use ATM's when there be aware that maximum withdrawal in many is only 4000 PHP. You can use the machines at the banks in the financial district of Makati where you can withdraw up to your daily limit.

Most banks will charge £2-£3 for each withdrawal so if you are staying in Manila a trip to Makati is worthwhile.

The Nationwide is the only bank, to my knowledge, that does not charge for withdrawals when abroad but if you do not bank with them then I do not think you have time to open an account before you depart.

In Davao, BNP atm machine allowed me to withdraw up to my daily limit. no problems in QC either.

i'm not sure that is true, i've always gone with at least £1,000 cash, never been stopped or asked, and i've never read anything that suggests that, i think there is a limit on goods you can bring in, but if its your own personal use, i dont think that applies and your not suppose to bring any php with you when you leave the phils

wn i went back to the phil. i brought £1,000 too w/o probs..and wn in phil. we just w draw using debit card to any atm machine that gives maximum 10,ooo pesos each wdrawal to save charges coz its only £1.50 per w drawal wn it charges. the dsadvantage is that wn u need more than 30,000pesos in a day u cant get it coz theres a limit to the withdrawable amount for the day..so hv to wait for another day to withdraw again..

I always take in excess of £1,000 cash. My understanding was the max is $10,000. I can usually withdraw up to 16,000 PHP a day while there. Has to be done in 4,000 PHP amounts with a withdrawal charge approaching £1.20 a time.
Be responsible with little so that you can be trusted with much!!
