Is this likely to be good news or bad?

    Good afternoon.

This is my first post although I have been lurking here for some time. I will post an Introduce Myself summary in due course.
My fiance submitted a Fiance visa application on 14th April and the online status has been that it was submitted to the British Embassy on the same date.
Today she has received a text message to attend VFS tomorrow between 3 and 5pm and the tracking status has changed to
"Status Your application is ready for collection; please visit the UK Visa Application Centre where you submitted your visa application to collect the same 12 Jun 2008"
My question is really as per the header, "Is this likely to be good news or bad?"

I will have a few more questions depending on the answer.

    Thank you

    David

Thats what I hoped you would say. She hasnt been called for an interview and in fact we have had no contact from the embassy since applying. If the application was rejected would that have not required a visit to the embassy rather than to the VFS?

Being positive, and hoping it is good news, we did indicate in the covering letters (the online application form didnt give an option to indicate) that she was looking to travel in mid-september. Do the VFS do the visa stamping with a date or is that something which the embassy will have arranged?

We have a provisional wedding date for January 17th next year and I am just concerned about the 6 months duration of the visa.

    Thanks again

This also sounds positive to me I assume she did not request the visa to be returned by courier.

    Good luck fingers crossed.

She did not request return by courier. She lives in Manila and its fairly easy for her to get to VFS or the British embassy

    Its GOOD News

    Daisy has her visa!

The only slight problem is its dated from now and expires in December. We had said in our covering letters that we were looking for her to travel in September! There was no space for the travel date on the online application form.

Rather than try to get the dates changed which I imagine would be complicated I am going to try to arrange a different wedding date. And will probably look to travel in August to collect her.

I cant stop smiling. Will be able to talk to her properly when she is home from the VFS.

I think its not on the covering letter u will put wn in she going, but on the application form. theres a question there, wn is the possible departure...coz like mine, i filed october last yr. and i said il be going november 28, so i got my visa after 3 days and the validity date starts november 28.

Yes there was on the written application form but we submitted one online and the question was missing. Thats why we included the date in the covering letter(s).
Also strange that we talked about getting married in January 2009 but they grant the visa to expire in December 2008!

Hopefully it wont be a problem and we will bring the marriage forward..........

You have plenty of time, just change the date of your marriage (before the visa expiration) then you have no problem.

Thanks again for the good wishes.

Have managed to bring the wedding forward to November 15th. Just have to sort flights out now to bring my fiance to London.

Just one question: Can someone confirm that we wont need a COA? (I am British, she is Filipino on a fiance visa) I cant really follow the logic on what I have read about the COA but suspect that the fiance visa does the same thing. Yours hopefully

    David

Thanks for all the good wishes. I hope we can share our experiences with the rest of the group.

Other than what seemed like a long wait (almost 2 months) the visa was issued. It would be good to know what clinched it as Daisy was not invited for interview. But I guess we will never know.....

Congrats xebec! So many variables determining. Minimally you require adequate evidence of ability to support, accommodation and relationship. Yet, those things in themselves do not determine the time lines or whether your partner is called for an interview. Time of year and ECO profile/circumstances are also key.

I think it has been tempting for some with good outcomes in the past to suggest that they did everything right which is why it happened for them. However, there are many on here who have been the key sources of the info that we all rely on for our application who had terrible experiences getting their wife/fiancee a visa. so there are many factors that as you suggest, we will never know about.

    Congrats again!

Yes Piamed, absolutely right. You said what I was trying to say better than I could.

It would be easy for us to say we got the visa because we did this and that and had this and that. But I have looked at other people's experiences - particularly since we submitted the visa when I was having doubts as to whether we would be successful - and they have done similar or done something better than we did.

I thought ours was a fairly straightforward application in that neither of us has been married before and we have no dependents. I was worried that the copy of my passport was simply that, a photocopy and not notarised, and also that the wedding plans were vague. My covering letter stated at least twice "If Daisy is called for interview she will be able to produce....." My budget was a couple of short columns and my bank statements showed as overdrawn in a couple of months with no explanation although I also evidenced some savings.

More by luck than judgement the 2 visits I have made to the Philippines were well documented with tickets, receipts, etc.

We have plenty of photographs although did not submit any with the application. My feeling being they were interview rather than application ecidence.

As I have said before this forum has been a source of inspiration and reassurance and sometimes challenge.

Xebec, you can tell a lot about a person by what they say and how they say it. To my mind you are a genuinely responsible person of humility and integrity. I'm sure that came across in the info as you presented it and helped the application a great deal.

Good luck to you both and God bless you!
