Is this a scam or not?

Hi,
Hopefully someone may throw some light on this. Possibly may even have first hand accounts. I had an email from a relative in the Philippines which I have pasted below.

I have attended a seminar last night on how to get a student visa for london. I really would like to avail it but it costs 346,000 pesos. However, I wanted to make sure that this consultancy firm is not fake and I don't want to invest this much amount but I wanted to be sure that it is real that is why I am asking you if you could please call this school LONDON SCHOOL OF HEALTH AND MANAGEMENT STUDIES and please ask if they are really connected in this program in the Philippines. And if they know this person YASH DUMON, they said he is their head consultant. I am afraid we might be faked because they don't have a name for their consultancy firm. It is located in Cagayan de Oro city and they have a coordinator here in Caraga Region. They also gave us this website: www.londonedu.co.uk. They said they already had dispatched three batches already from Iligan City and Cagayan de oro.

Phone then school and ask them. My sister in law had an "invite" from a hotel in London to work there with promises of lots of different vacancies with unbelievably good wages. The catch was that she was expected to pay some money for visa expenses.
I checked it out for her. It was indeed a scam. Although the hotel was genuine, the contact names were bogus and obviously it was a scammer who would have taken her money and never be heard of again.

Don't believe any names and contact numbers on the scam email. Go online and find out if the establishment is genuine. If it is, find out their actual phone number, ring them and ask if the names you have been given are genuine.
My wife was caught out in a similar scam before we met and they even held her passport and she had to pay to get it back.

Always deal with visa applications yourself, don't trust anyone else to deal with it.

Many Phills while i have been over there have shown me details of job offers and agencies in the UK and other western countries.

One Cousin asked me discretely at a family do about one offer.
I asked a mate to make some enquires and found the address was not an office for the said company. A total scam but as well as the Wifes cousin many highly skilled workmates were taken in.
Luckily they had not handed over any money or passports.

Due to the money involved many of the scams are very very professional so be very very careful.

Even some real colleges in the UK have such poor condtions and services that it would be of little use to a real student.

They are basically just there to allow people a student visa to the UK it appears to me as no locals appear to use them.

That is not to say the one mentioned is like that.

The college on its site claimed to be registered. I checked with Companies House and it is registered. Very little info is available about the comapny other than its registered number and address. I have phoned them and actually spoke with Yash Dumon.

It appears as though they have a number of 'reps' working in the Philippines to recruit people to their 'course'. The course is a Health and Social care course NVQ level 2 to 3. He also told me, when asked, that they will work 20hrs per week concurrently with the course and earn £200 per week. They have to pay their own accomodation and food. After finishing the course he told me they have to show a minimum of £6,000 in their bank account to satisfy the immigration authorities. Of course, they then go on to give hope of future long term employment. They can appear genuine on the surface BUT I suspect that these so called colleges are exploiting the law in the
way they operate as a college as well as the current rules on
immigration. For example. A foreign student can work in the UK, but
only if they are currently enrolled in a course at a college of
further education. When the course finishes they will not be able to continue to stay in the UK.

I was hoping that someone who has been recruited like this may visit this site and comment.

i think the whole student visa/nvq thing must be close to, if it doesn't break immigration rules, working a 40hr week, claiming only 20 is actually work and 20hrs is 'training', if you 'work' 40 hrs aweek, paid or unpaid its still work

working more than 20hrs a week term time, on a student visa, if caught will get you a ban from the uk

i think thats better you personally phone that school and ask if they know YASH DUMON the head consultant,bcoz i am thinking that yash dumon used that school to get the money to the applicant. yash dumom name sounds not english thats what im worried about.

£10 per hour for part time work,I dont think so!You will find that they deduct accomodation and food from your wages at inflated cost,and the only one with £6000 in the bank will be them.

Also at two places my Wife used to work at, people who were on student visa have ALL had there hours reducded. Some from what my wife told me i would be surprised if they had ever entered the college.

All employers are very cautious about breaking any law regarding visas it appears.

I think he's referring to NVQ courses in UK. IT is a workbased training education, u get your qualification thru on the job training -40hrs per week.
