Maybe I read it wrong, but that sounds like some kind of sarcasm directed at ShamrockDave.

This is a genuine request for information about buying a laptop in the Philippines, so can we please stick to the subject at hand.

You did read it wrong and jumped to conclusions from my own experience of skype it seemed a valid point to add since it was the ability to communicate at will that was the objective!!
