What happens to a dependant when he turns 18?

My father is on a work permit that is going to expire September 2009. My brother (17) is applying for a VISA now and our family is really PRAYING that nothing untoward happens in the application process.

My question is, should my father's company extend his contract and apply an extended work permit for him, will my father still be able to claim my brother as a dependant, who by September 2009 will already have turned 18?

what is your brother doing now and what's he going to do in the uk ?

your father must get him to the uk b4 he is 18.

i'm pretty sure that your brother can still be a dependant of your father after he's 18yrs old, as long as your brother is not married or in a civil partnership, must not have formed an independent family unit, and must not be leading an independent life.
