Things have probably changed now, but back in 2005, I booked Elsa a flight Manila to Hong Kong with Cathay, and it was booked online. I only found out afterwards that the cardholder should be present at Manila before boarding the flight, HOWEVER, on calling Cathay Head Office in Hong Kong, they confirmed that I could either fax a copy of my credit card to Cathay main office at Heathrow or personally show it to them at Heathrow (luckily I was travelling to Hong Kong that very same day, so it was just a short walk over to T3). Once they see your credit card, they then message Manila to change flight status to OK.

Like I said, this may have changed now, and in my experience, there is no set policy - its dependant upon the airline.

Dependant on the Airline and i guess the security status at the very moment you fly.

The last thing you want is an incident to occur and them to flag your mahals ticket as suspicous due to the nature it was purchased.
