Anyone get their teeth fixed in the Phil?

I have just been speaking to my Girl about the cost of going to the Dentist here, and she said to me that I should get my teeth looked at while I am in Manila or Davao as it will be considerably cheaper. As I need a filling and cannot get NHS dental treatment this sounds like a good idea.
I know there are better things to do while in the Phil, but needs must..
Has anyone else here done this and is there anything I need to be wary of?

I think she's right about it being cheaper here in the Philippines. I suggest you have it done here in Manila. We have good and efficient dentist here. You can have your pick of the best dentist here. I have a friend in Canada and needs root canal. The dentist there is charging her 450 canadian while she can have it here for 1,000 pesos. My friend is coming for a visit this coming September and will have her root canal too. Don't just go to any dental clinic in seedy places.Have your girl ask around.. there are plenty here and are comparable with dentist abroad ...cheaper too.

the dental work done on me would cost 2 grand if I had it done here but in the PI, it was only £350. Obviously, I wouldn't be able to do that if I was earning pesos.

Definitely get all your dental work done in the PI. Most SM malls have a clinic called Dental City. They're pricey than the average out-of-mall clinics but at least you know you're getting quality service.

As long as you will get an appointment with a very good dentist then there's no problem. The cost is much cheaper. My husband had some fillings last year in Cebu and he was so impressed and it cost him 1/2 lesser than having it done here...and the way dentists do the prophylaxis in the Philippines is very good unlike here that you will just have to sit for 5minutes and the hygienist will tell you it's done...!

I must admit, I had some lovely dental work done in Bacolod City, I had an excruciating tooth removed by Dr Octaviano Junior, who is a well known dentist in town, and he charged me P500.00 which I thought was very reasonable, yes I firmly beleive dental work in the Philippines is much cheaper and I would recommend it.

Wena had all her dental work done before coming to the UK. SHe had 7 fillings and her teeth whitened for less that a pack of that teeth whitening crap the sell at the supermarket here.

I just hope my teeth last until I next get out there.

If only we could take our cars for servicing, plumbing requirements etc etc to Pi when we need to.

I used the Malay looking dentist in there once, but I left there feeling like I'd been in a fist fight, cuts on my lips, tongue and gums!

'Heavy handed' is what they call it in the Philippines, my wife told. That's what we call it in the UK too, I told her.

Two of the Wifes cousins are Dentists, so its like heaven in phill compared to the UK. Just pop in to the surgery when over there and have some free time, both of us had some basic work done i think it was 20 pounds for both of double the local rate but meant the Wifes cousin could do some free work for those that can't pay.
Here the UK it would have costs us i think about 400 quid.

My Lady is a dentist, she is in san mateo (just outside (NE) Manila) but she has a large number of friends who are also dentists, sure I could get a few recommendations if anyone wanted.

Hopfully she won't be there from november.. :-)

Hello everyone! Im a practising dental surgeon and i had few foriegn patients before. I just got married last May 2006 to a loving and handsome Englishman. No...he's not my regular patient and No...we didnt meet at the surgery. He didn't know im a dentist when we first met. Maybe it's an instinct for me to first observe his teeth/oral hygiene when he talks(during the first time we met.). Believe me, he got a very nice set of teeth (no dentures!) which impressed me,as a dentist!
So we became friends and eventually fell in love...Anyway,i know how expensive the dental treatments in the UK, especially if you don't have NHS. I've had my training in singapore,and now back in my hometown again. So when my husband decided to have his routine check-up & dental treatment done in the philippines during one of his visits,he came to my surgery and He got 4 composite fillings done(molars)...all for free! But of course,afterwards,he treated me out for a nice dinner..a good massage..
Yeah,so i suggest that whilst you're here in the philippines,take advantage of our cheaper dental treatments (compared to UK & US,of course). I knew a lot of colleagues in manila who have a good practice and can offer best services. So for those who seek dental treatments in the philippines,go ahead and i assure you that our dental clinics here are worth visiting for!

i would certainly endorse your post, and its good to hear that you gave husband some free dental work, when i met my wife she is a Medical Technologist, so at her practice, I was treated to some free exploratory tests, which would have cost a fortune here in UK, I made the contribution of P750.00 for the tests, and I found out some much about my health, it pretty well told me what I already knew, but it was good to confirm it anyway, Cholesterol too high, usual things, but its nice to have Wags in the Philippines who can give you access to these services, so I would recommend that anyone in the Phils does have some dental work done, I also used a specialist to remove a foreign object in my ear, and it was done immedeatly, on application, so glad you gave that story.

It's good to know that you have your Laboratory test done here as well. A lot of professionals in the phils are very competent and efficient in their fields of work. Shame that some of these people are already living and working abroad...which will include me soon!

I ve done my dental in philippines. Way way cheap.Everything, for 150 euros.

In France, we could have pay 700 euros(35thou pesos) reimburse only 80% of it by NHS France.

It is still better to get it done in Phils, for few pesos than 35thou !!!

I've just had some work done in the Phils so I thought I would offer my opinion.

I was quite lucky in that my mahal's mama knew a dentist quite well (it was a surgery in Laguna) and I had a large bridge done for a total of 18,200 PHP. This included the price of the bridge, all work, well everything.

By comparison, the cost in the UK - I never found out because the consultation fee was £95.00 alone (half the cost of the treatment in the Phils).

Am I happy wth the work? YES!!! It was superb. I had 2 temporary bridges built while my gums healed (I needed an extraction which was surprisingly painless because of the dentists skill - she had me humming Beatles tunes while it was taken out!), and the final fits almost like a glove (still some healing to do which will take time). The final fitting was done by an orthodontist and he really took a lot of effort to make sure that a) it was clinically sound, and b) it looked good. Unlike UK dentists, Filipino dentists consider the appearance of teeth to be important.

From now, I think all my dental work will be done there - the money saved pays me to visit. But the important thing is that my gums are healed well, my smile is improved by several hundred percent (my fiancee now makes fun of me smiling all the time!), and it worked out cheaper to visit my mahal and have the work done there than have it done in the UK and stay at home.

Obviously, try to find a good dentist - your mahal should be able to help here and if not, try to find one with a good reputation.

i remembered, When i was little i used to dream that ill be a dentist someday hehe...i just admire dentists, they do wonders! they make pangit smile to beatiful smile hehe maybe i was/am just too conscious with my teeth, im afraid to lose any of my teeth hehehe (hehe i also joined contests in school when i was in elementary)hahaha

hehe but anyway, doc whats the best toothpaste ever (that will make the teeth really whiter)/mouthwash (that will last long) here in the philly? lol is bleaching advisable (how much will it cost?) pls PM me for the brand (advertisements not allowed here) ty

Thanks for the compliment! It's the other way around for me coz i hate dentists when i was a kid. I wanted to be a fighter plane pilot! But since im grandma's favorite grandchild(being the first apo),she asked me to pursue dentistry,until even on her last breath she made me promise to be a dentist! So since im really scared of ghost,i did everything i could to finish the course and passed the board exams.

I live on Panay with my living partner for 6 months every year. I prefer to have my teeth cleaned there, rather than here in Alaska mostly as a matter of principle. One of my adult daughters here in the USA is a practicing dental hygienist. Its fine with her, but they taught her at the univ. to be wary of advising people re saving money by using Mexican or overseas invasive dental services.
I would prefer to have some of my crowns redone on Panay, but one of my dentists here on Panay, told me that when it comes to putting on gold crowns instead of the usual steel & porcelain, that there could be ???? (I forget) problems because the gold amalgams used are different in different countries or something to that effect.
I'll have to look him up again in a few months when I'm there, perhaps. I'd rather have the old caps re-done in the PI, but that's the only thing that's stopping me. A porcelain cap done there was quoted by dentists in Batangas and Puerto Galera at P2000@ and P2500 @, while my dentist here in Alaska wanted $800 US @ = P40,000. As you can see..... there's quite a difference.
I have visited 4 philippine dental offices over the last 4 years, some for quotes and others for cleanings. I felt all of them were quite professional and wouldn't hesitate to have any work done there.... Now if I could only solve the 'Riddle of the Gold' , i.e., what happens inside your mouth if you have different gold amalgams on different teeth? Anything deleterious? Are you running any unnecessary risks? Is your wet mouth akin to a boat hull with different metals that needs sacraficial anodes to counter molecule migration via electrolysis or what??? I should have paid more attention to the dentist man when he cleaned my teeth.... all I recall was that few people in the PI have gold crowns put on and few dentists are called upon or familiar with them due to the high relative expense.
If it wasn't for the kindly warning of this Philipino Dental Doctor, I wouldn't hesitate to have all my dental work done there.
I do have to add, though, that my partner had a toothache a few years ago while we were in Iloilo. We went to a low rent dental office. Gena was examined and we went to a lab for dental X-rays, but she wouldn't go back to the guy with them for some reason. I didn't press her on the issue, but trusted her. She insisted upon waiting until she got home to Calipan and then taking the, already paid for & in-purse, X-rays to her own regular dentist for treatment. So the point is..... it still pays to use good judgement whenever seeking any type of services. Also..... always get a cost estimate/quote up front before any work is done.
